The Divine Order
The Divine Order is ruled by the Templar of Pholtus through the 'Theocracy of the Pale', which has held sway here in recent years since the near destruction of the city of Rel Mord and the apparent death of Queen Xenia Sallavarian of Nyrond in 598. While the theocracy does recognise member kingdoms such as Nyrond and Urnst, the Templars of the Church Militant have replaced all military forces beyond the personal bodyguards of King Lynwerd of Nyrond and Duke Karll Lorinar of Urnst. Most other member nations don't even keep personal guards, leaving the Divine Order in complete control.
The order tolerates only a single religion, worship of the God of Light, Pholtus. They do not otherwise have any issue with non-human species joining their ranks, but because of their fanaticism, the lands controlled by the Order are predominantly human.
While the Order does currently wage war on the Faerie folk of Celene, they make no secret of the fact that this is only a means to an end - the harvesting of sufficient Soil to destroy the Faerun nation of Thay and all 'renegade' wizards of that land. Contrary to popular belief however, the Order does not consider all wizards to be renegades, only those who refuse to adhere to Pholtus' teachings on the responsible study of magic. The Divine Order appears to have been preparing for their crusade against all arcane spellcasters for some time now, and their paladins have prepared robust and severe counterprayers, while being armed with magic-repellant armor and weaponry of an inspiring but alien design...
Winters in the Divine Order homelands can be savage. Crops can be difficult to grow here, but the sheep of the region produce some of the finest wool of the land. The Crusaders are also in a constant need of soil to wage their holy war on Faerun.
