CoS Session 26: Handgun Bootcamp

• The party makes it to the college town of Oftin
• the ancient Eldermere University towers over the rest of the city
• Medraad tried to hide his tiefling identity from the rest of the party
• Elan noticed him leave wagon one morning without his disguise
• Medraad went to clearing to speak with Man in Black
• Man in Black tells him to play Coven and Avicenna against each other
• Elan calls Medraad on BS, he says she has no idea about bigger picture
• Elan decides to keep Medraad’s identity a secret
• Azrael gives them tour of Oftin, shows them Handgun HQ
• He warns them to not mess with Eldermere's students
• Handgun and Eldermere have an unspoken agreement
• Medraad sees tiefling named Barrasso in Handgun HQ
• Barrasso tells him that the Handgun’s fine with tieflings
• Avicenna, on the other hand, is hella racist
• Medraad decides to drop disguise and reveal his true self to party
• Nikolaj loses a bet with Azrael, Sebastian’s wary
• As a halfling from the Elflands, he remembers several tiefling invasions from Rakka
• So we have some racism to deal with
• Classes start next morning, Azrael gives them evening off
• Elan finds some students to talk to
• She impresses them with Catriona’s stories of Avicenna
• Sebastian visits local Temple of Erivo
• He’s become a convert after a near-death experience in Oakengaard
• Medraad grills Nikolaj on Rexfur’s motives
• Nikolaj explains how Rexfur wants a pantheon that works w/ mortals
• Medraad’s reassured that Rexfur is not part of a Coven
• Nikolaj hasn’t been praying to Rexfur much
• The next day Azrael gives them lessons in all the thieving skills
• Animal Handling
• Handgun uses crows to speak with agents in the field
• Give a crow a doodad and roll animal handling
• Everybody passes first test
• Deception, Stealth, Acrobatics, History, Sleight of Hand are all tested
• For stealth they follow a woman in an orange cloak through town
• She goes into a tavern with a Three Fingers symbol carved onto the side
• Elan and Nikolaj do the best, Sebastian did the worst
• Medraad did so-so, but he was having an off day

• Azrael gives the party their first Handgun assignment
• Break into a tavern and steal a map from the Three Fingers
• This map is an Avicennan military doc with places of interest on it
• It’ll help them on future missions there
• Now, the most bonkers break-in in the campaign thus far
• The tavern is called Honeybee, three stories with a big stage
• Elan and Sebastian barge into tavern and start putting on a show
• But a harpist is already performing
• Sebastian destroys the performer’s harp
• Bartender tries to stop them, but they’re putting on too good a show
• Nikolaj and Medraad sneak in amidst the chaos
• Medraad is disguised as a woman in an orange claok
• In about 10-15 minutes, they find the map in a documents supply room
• Medraad does more snooping, finds a list of gods Coven wants converted
• High on that list is Helm, interestingly enough
• He also sees part of a yellow symbol, but he stops himself from seeing all of it
• As Medraad is about to leave, he gets noticed by a woman in orange cloak
• She waves, but lets him leave
• The party leaves tavern after success, but gets stopped by the same woman in orange cloak
• She has crossbows aimed at them with agents in rooftops above
• Introduces herself as Verona de Noves, leader of the Three Fingers
• She’s impressed by their moves, will let them leave on one condition
• Sometime in the future they’ll owe her and the Three Fingers a favor
• She misses the old days when they all used to be the Red Hand
• Party’s not convinced, Elan wants to fight
• Medraad casts suggestion to let them leave without deal
• Verona agrees, but says they’ll regret disagreement with Three Fingers
• She says Sebastian killed one of their merchants in Oakengaard
• She turns to Medraad and says that Fairouz misses him?
• Verona waves a forced goodbye, tosses them parcel to give to Azrael
• Back at Handgun HQ they hand Azrael the map and mention run-in with Verona
• They give him parcel, Azrael blushes bright-red
• He used to date Verona before Red Hand split
• His undergarments are in the parcel
• Azrael rewards them 100GP each for mission
