Mount Rampage

The Living Mountain

Though the unstable magma fields of the Caustic Cauldera provide ample volcanic events, Mount Rampage remains the only active composite volcano on the island. It rises dramatically from the ocean at the southeast tip of Deadmouth Island, climbing quickly to some 5000 feet above sea level. Only really scaleable from the landward side, it remains hard to reach as getting to its foot means traversing the Infernal Jungle.

Geography

On its seaward side, Mount Rampage rises almost vertically out of the ocean. The scaleable side of the active volcano is accessible only through the dense Infernal Jungle. A slow stream of lava oozes from the peak of the mountain, pooling into a small lake at the foot. On the ocean side, a cascade of magma pours down into the ocean below. When the boiling lava hits the cool seawater a number of things happen. The seawater cools the lava instantly into a brittle, glass like substance that instantly shatters, launching shards of sharp basalt in all directions. Toxic, acidic gases are released in a cloud of steam. billowing out from the surface of the water. In short, anyone getting close to the seaward foot of Mount Rampage in risking a quick and painful death.
