The Plains War

The Conflict

Prelude

700 years after the fall of the Kingdom of Garamor, Nacado was coming into its own as a power to reckoned with in Egera. Lord Askith, then ruler of the fledgeling city-state, sought to expand his territory and influence. Although there was plenty of land to the east for the city to expand, Askith was jealous of the verdant land on which the Kentier currently made their home.   There was, at that point, no official treaty between Nacado and the kentier tribe that was their closest neighbor, although there were loosely defined trading agreements. Because of this, Askith imagined he could simply waltz in and claim the land for his own.

Deployment

Nacado had no formal army at the time, as it had no military rivals and peaceful relations with its neighbors. It did have a trained city guard and militia, however, for times of emergencies. It was these Lord Askith ordered to cross the Life River and claim the lands on its western bank. By force if necessary.

The Engagement

The Nacadan forces expected no resistance from their peaceful agrarian neighbors. The kentier did resist, but they were unprepared for attack and withdrew after only a short skirmish. Believing his forces victorious, Lord Askith immediately began plans for developing his new territory for farming and industry. However, several weeks later the kentier returned with reinforcements from the other tribes, and despite their lack of proper weapons or military training, forced the remaining Nacadan troops to retreat. Several more skirmishes followed over the next months, but the kentier proved their ability to defend their lands. With his own numbers dwindling and his people growing displeased, Lord Askith finally admitted a stalemate and agreed to negotiations with kentier leaders.
