Demon
After the Great Cataclysm, it is believed that celestials came into existence. No one is for sure how but they began to inhabit the upper planes in the realms of existence. They started to establish themselves as guardians of the mortal realms and served as guides to great heroes, as messengers of the gods, and harbingers of righteousness. Ten celestials rebelled against the rest and gathered other like minded individuals. Their army was defeated and they were cast out of the upper planes and into the abyss. From the abyss these beings reveled in the chaos forming their own individual kingdoms within.
These fallen celestials became demons. Their pure forms now corrupted into an assortment of vile creatures. The ten generals that led them in their war became the ten demon kings. These kings carved their own kingdoms out of the Abyss and lord over the rest of demon kind.
Basic Information
Biological Traits
Demons are the corrupted form of celestials. Like their cousins in the upper planes, demons are immortal and can only die if they're killed. Since they are corrupted, demons take many forms with the smallest recorded demons being about 4 ft. tall with the largest being as tall as 20 ft. Their skin colors and physical appearances are all in a great variety as it is believed that there are many subspecies of demons. Too many to count.

Civilization and Culture
History
Like all things nothing is born inherently evil. The demons are such a case. Celestials are divine beings that reside in the upper planes, serving as guardians of the mortal realm. Ten of them rebelled against the gods and their kind. They gathered an army of other like minded celestials and waged their war against the heavens. Their host was cast out into the Abyss and they reveled in the chaos establishing their order. These fallen celestials became demons.
Those ten celestial generals that led the rebellion became known as the ten demon kings. After their fall many of these kings were hunted down. The demon kings fashioned crowns for themselves, and they need all ten to bring their ultimate goal into fruition. Since many of the demon kings were hunted down and killed, new ones rose to take their place. They were chosen from mortal beings, willing to sacrifice what they hold dear in order to achieve such things. Every few hundred years, a new demon king is chosen to replace the one that has fallen.
Sometimes demons make their way to the mortal planes and have children with mortals. They're known as Tieflings --children of the fallen.
