Tiefling

One of the most feared races in Edda; a tiefling is a product between a demon and that of a mortal species -- most often times a human. Because of their demonic bloodline, ancestry, and appearance, tieflings are seen as evil and untrustworthy. Even though they're perceived this way, there is little evidence to support said fears and traits. They're often met with extreme prejudice; stares, insult, and violence, it is best that a tiefling keep its distance from society. People often fear what they don't understand and sometimes, when a tiefling is pushed to the brink they will give those around them even more reason to fear them...

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humanoid in size and appearance but they have a set of horns and a tail.

Biological Traits

Tieflings tend to spend nine months in the womb before being born like humans. They range anywhere from five to six feet tall and have a lifespan that is a tad longer than the average humans. They typically weigh anywhere from 140-180 lbs. and have tails that can be four to five feet long. They're known to have sharply pointed canine teeth, horns protruding from their head, and darker hair colors.

Genetics and Reproduction

Being a humanoid species, tieflings reproduce sexually. Like humans, a tiefling child will spend nine months in its mother's womb before being born.

Growth Rate & Stages

Tieflings grow and mature at the same rate as humans, with tieflings fully maturing in their early to mid twenties.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Like all humanoid species it is believed that tieflings are omnivorous. No one has seen a tiefling in centuries so, now it is hard to say. Do they rely on eating plants and animals equally or do they lean towards their demonic heritage and consume more meat than anything else?

Additional Information

Social Structure

Being outcasts of society, Tieflings have no given social structure. Like half-elves and half-orcs, they tend to adopt the social structure of whatever society they happen to be a part of. Given that most races are hostile towards tieflings, most of the time they're secluded wandering hermits and it hasn't been unheard of for tieflings to be found among the nomadic Kattegat.

Facial characteristics

Sharp canines with horns protruding from their heads. These horns come in a variety of shapes and can look like that of a ram's, bull's, gazelle's, or antelope's.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Due to a tieflings demonic and otherworldly heritage, many have them have an innate ability to cast minor magical abilities.

History

The first tieflings appeared in Edda thousands of years ago before the Great Catastrophe when the ten demon kings and their hosts were cast out of the heavens and into the Abyss. Demons used to a part of a race known as Celestials. Celestials reside in the heavens and are servants to the gods. Ten of these celestials rebelled against their kin and forever became known as the Ten Demon Kings. The other celestials who followed them became corrupted and in turn, became demons. The demons lost the heavenly war and were cast out. Many would mate with humans over time and as a result; tieflings were born.   Due to demons generally being perceived as evil, most tieflings are outcasts and shunned by society. Because of this, many of them became wandering outlanders and hermits on the fringes of society, avoiding civilization at all costs in the fear of being persecuted. The one race that tieflings hate above all else are the aasimar, as most aasimar see it as their divine duty to smite the wicked. In the eyes of aasimar, tieflings fall into this category. This has made the two races natural enemies. Unfortunately, because tieflings are so heavily persecuted, quite a few have given into their demonic nature and joined the ranks of their demon ancestors in an attempt to bring about the end of the world.   Tieflings are now a rare occurance in the world of Edda. They aren't as numerous as they once were and if they're encountered they're often times met with mixed reactions. Most of those reactions being fear. It is reported that some can be found among the nomadic Kattegat Tribe.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Most species in Edda are either unfriendly or hostile towards tieflings due to their demonic heritage. Half-Orcs and half-elves tend to be more friendly towards tieflings though as they can understand the struggle of straddling two different worlds at once.
