Wardens of Iron

The Wardens of Iron is a paramilitary religious organisation formed by worshippers of the Arainian goddess Tyrae. The Wardens follow a strong religious dogma that tasks its members with a sacred duty to protect the weak and poor, effectively acting as a secondary police force where ever they go. They are famously unscrutable and righteous in their pursuit and execution of justice, according to Tyrae's tenets and decrees. This has made them quite popular with the lower classes in big cities, where they stand against corruption, and at the edges of human civilisation, where justice is rare. Several large chapters of the Wardens can be found in the major Arainian cities along the Eclion coastline, such as in Vilrania, Korreston and Darenmont. The headquarters of the Wardens, a large temple devoted to Tyrae the Just, is located in Ballydon.   Members are easily reckogniseable by their white-grey attires, usually simple frocks or robes. Underneath their unremarkable cloaks or clothing they carry black leather or metal cludgels or clubs with which they enforce their authority. The custom to hide their weapons has given them the nickname cloaked hammers.

Structure

Player characters can gain renown with the Wardens, reflecting their standing with its members. Renown is earned by completing missions for the Wardens or advancing their interests. A higher renown score allows acces to more goods and services from group members and affiliates.

Tenets of Faith

  • Society is protected by its laws, without it we are lost;
  • To enact righteous punishment is to atone for your own sins;
  • No one is above the law.

Ethics

The Wardens are prohibited by Tyrae to 'spill blood' in the enforcement of their divine duty. As such they do not carry weapons that could cut or pierce flesh. Instead they use bludgeoning weapons, such as cludgels, clubs and sometimes maces to ensure their safety and the compliance of others. Although Tyrae's commandment forbids the unnecessary use of (lethal) force and the spilling of blood, Wardens will strike hard at those that oppose their divine justice. It is not uncommon that a suspect or target of the Wardens ends up with sanctioned execution at the moment of arrest. This strict and lethal enforcement in the pursuit of justice has given the Wardens a reputation of zealous brawlers.

Sects

There is a dogmatic schism with the regular worshippers of Tyrae about how dogged one should be in the pursuit of justice.

Righteous in duty.
