The Brass Boar

The Brass Boar Inn and Tavern is the beating heart of the Lower Market. Its dwarven owner, Illtar Fallsfield, offers his patrons a vast downstairs area that is always filled with life and music. The tavern is so well frequented that Illtar has to employ several rotating shifts of three to six servers depending on the time of day. The tavern's tables are always surrounded by lively chatter, wisps of smoke and the scent of spirits. The tavern is frequented by people from all walks of life and is accepted as an unoffical neutral ground in Dimond. Many out-of-towners will finish their day of selling wares at the market in the Brass Boar before they leave town in the late afternoon. At midday, Illtar's fair-priced meals attract many shopowners and workers, but also guards and knights of the Ordained. Because of the sheer size of his establishment Illtar can serve so many guests that in the past couple of years he could afford to not raise his prices when any other inn and tavern in Dimond did so. This makes the Brass Boar extremely popular in the evenings as well. It is the room prices - anyone will tell you - where Illtar employs a rather unflexible pricing strategy. His philosophy remains, that if you can even consider to rent a room in Dimond you can most likely afford his prices. Nevertheless, renting out rooms is not where the coin is made in Dimond, as the noble estates remain empty all year long and anyone with just a tad of connections will be able to talk some nobility into lending them their empty manors for a favour.   As dwarven neighbours, Dworen Amberbrook who lives upstairs of his own shop, The Booksmith Emporium, is a longtime friend of Illtar. It was him, who rented out a house next door to Dworen for his beginnings as a shopowner when no one else even considered giving him a lease.   Illtar holds all his guests in high esteem regardless of their station and perhaps it is this attitude that makes his inn work so well and have a surprinsingly low rate of barfights and crimes considering it's situated in the Lower Market district.   It is rumoured that King Marcael was a frequent patron of the Brass Boar before being considered as a candidate for the Valordan crown. True or not, members of his personal guard can be met there from time to time on their downtime. One of the royal guards is even a cousin of Illtar.
