Elemental Wells

Introduction:

The elemental wells are a plane of existance that borders The Universe in the star system containing the Precursor Forge. While they once functioned naturally, the wells are currently powered by incredibly advanced machines called the elemental engines. The leemental wells are important for serving as the power source for magic. Without the wells, magic would be impossible.

Origin:

Before the first cataclysm, the universe bordered five inner planes: the four elemental planes and the ethereal plane. While the force of magic came from the god Magic, the forces innate energy was sourced from the elemental planes. When the Old Gods sealed off most planes from the universe, magic stopped functioning as a result of the elemental planes being cut off. This changed after the first divine war, when the early empire and the Super-Aberrant Megafauna Azathoth and Shudhri partnered together to invade the elemental planes in an attempt to drive the gods out of them. The war was only a partial success, with the invaders claiming only a small piece of each elemental plane. Over time, these small pieces merged together to form one small plane, known as the elemental wells.
Due to their infinite size, the elemental planes has the power to fuel magic for eternity. However, with the limited size of the elemental wells the small plane began to slowly die. After 30,000 years, the plane had grown empty and once again failed to fuel magic. This magic drought lasted for over 400,000 years until the advanced empire created the elmental engines to replace the plane's original power source. These engines still function today.
