Pick Spires

The pick spires of the Lannai Plateau are some of the most awe-inspiring sights in all of Emmeron. In the deep canyon that separates the two halves of the Plateau, the pick spires stand as tall as the canyon walls and follow the central axis of the canyon to the great waterfalls. The pick spires themselves are massive rock structures, vertically from the canyon floor, up into large pick-shaped formations at their top. It is unknown how the pick spires formed originally, taking on such clean, parallel lines through the center of the plateau. They are believed to be of magical origin, from a culture that existed prior to the Hallowing War. Others believe that the spires formed more naturally, as a result of erosion from the constant winds that move through the canyon. In either case, the pick spires serve as a constant shade from the glaring sun of the desert lands. Over the years, the Grand Souk has formed around the bases of the pick spires. Water that collects at the tops of the stone formations rains down into a series of elaborate water catchments and wall-mounted aqueducts attached to the canyon walls. Careful attention has been paid to the pick spires, by the ruling factions of the Grand Soukm to protect the spires from unnecessary tempering. The spires themselves have largely been left untouched, with the markets and housing of the Spaayir Uthaol settlement building up adjacent to them. The caps of the pick spires were found to be hollow, however, and have become the defacto residences of the leaders of the massive settlement.
