Gaetta Sunscale

(a.k.a. the Shogun of Kingsgarden)

Gaetta is a dragonborn from the jungles of Q'barra. He is a member of the Sunscale clan, a relatively small and peaceful tribe with almost no influence from or exposure to the rest of Khorvaire. When asked, he admits this is exactly why he finds himself in Korth today. The elders of his clan decided they needed ambassadors to the outside world, trusted dragonborn who could learn the ways and languages of the lesser races so that the clan might prosper through trade and the exchange of ideas. Gaetta had enthusiastically volunteered. Now after living nearly a year in the Karrnathi capital, his enthusiasm has waned significantly.   Having never seen Korth (or anywhere else) before the terrible events culminating in the Fall of the Tower of the Twelve,  Gaetta is thoroughly unimpressed with "civilization". Although admittedly a fraction of the size of Korth, drakatha ("dragonborn" in the draconic tongue) cities deep in Q'barra are far cleaner, better maintained, and safer than even some of the better sections of the capital. Before he came to the The Five Nations, he had thought those drakatha who considered the other races mentally and physically inferior were small-minded fools. Now he's starting to think they may have been right.   Mere weeks after having settled in the Kingsgarden district, Gaetta witnessed a human male beating a half-orc female on the street in broad daylight while a crowd of agast onlookers watched. The man was large and well-muscled for a human, and he radiated an air of menace. He was taking his time with the beating, dealing out viscous slaps and brutal punches one at a time, making sure each individual in the crowd knew there wasn't a thing they could do to stop him. As it turned out, he was very, very wrong about that. Gaetta didn't remember feeling anything as he educated the man, neither shame nor satisfaction. It was more like putting down a rabid animal - distasteful but necessary. He took the brute apart piece by piece, taking care not to kill him. Breaking him was better. It didn't take long.   The half-orc woman, a prostitute and procurer known as Lascivious Lotus (Lacey, to her friends), implored Gaetta to protect her and her "girls" from reprisals. The man who had been trying to kill her was a member of the Fancy Bastards, a street gang trying to violently consolidate all of the local drug trade, prostitution, and protection rackets (basically anything not already under the Midwife's purview). And there had been reprisals. At least at first. Gaetta had been obliged to put down a few more animals before the Fancy Bastards decided the procurement industry wasn't for them.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

If Bruce Lee was a 6'5", black-scaled, man-lizard, he would look a lot like Gaetta.

Body Features

Most members of the Sunscale clan develop iridescent gold or silvery scales when they reach their first adult molting. For Gaetta this manifests as shimmering, almost glowing, golden scales on his chest and back.

Special abilities

Gaetta spits lighting (and craps thunder).

Mental characteristics

Education

Gaetta, like most Q'barran dragonborn, is formally educated but he is still fairly naive when it comes to daily life in the Five Nations.

Employment

Gaetta receives a monthly stipend from Lascivious Lotus in return for keeping her girls safe.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Considered the baddest mo' fo' low-down around this town.

Mental Trauma

To Gaetta, life in Korth is a daily trauma. He finds himself thinking less and less charitably towards the other races, and views humans in particular as just a step above animals. But it's the destruction of the Shoushe Pe monastery has him truly seething. Not only had he befriended several of the monks, he occasionally trained and meditated there. He is actively looking into this crime and is determined to serve his own brand of justice for it.

Intellectual Characteristics

He is aware that he's getting kind of racist-y. He doesn't like it, but he can't help it.

Morality & Philosophy

Has very rigid ideas of right and wrong, but those rarely involve moral judgments. His Q'barran values are centered around maintaining order, because in a naturally dangerous environment like his home, ignoring rules or lacking discipline equals death - potentially for the entire clan. Gaetta doesn't necessarily hold "outlanders" to Q'barran standards, but he will not tolerate any efforts to victimize or weaken his chosen community (what he thinks of as his adopted clan). He views tyranny in any form as evil, but is especially intolerant of the theft of life or liberty (unless he's the one doing it; then it's justice). Those are wrongs that must be punished, and Gaetta has very sharp claws that do the job nicely.

Personality Characteristics

Personality Quirks

Gaetta refers to Gaetta in the third person a lot.

Hygiene

He tries to pretend otherwise, but he is quite fastidious about the cleanliness of his mane.

Although Gaetta does not know it, the real reason the Sunscale Dragonborn elders sent clan members out into the world is because they struck a bargain with a dragon from Argonessen. The dragon is a member of the mysterious group known as The Chamber, a draconic cabal obsessed with manipulating events on Khorvaire to align with the Draconic Prophecy. The elders are not privy to the dragon's plans or motivation, but she is a powerful patron and the Sunscale were in no position to turn her down.
