Draconic Prophecy

The true nature of the Draconic Prophecy is as mysterious and as fiercely debated as the Prophecy itself. Does it predict a future that cannot be changed or does it warn of tragedies to come so they might be averted? Is it a grim revelation of how the world ends or is it a detailed blueprint for constructing a new beginning?    For most of the peoples of Eberron, the answers to these questions don't matter a gnoll's fart. Even reading one small section of the Prophecy would be the work of several lifetimes for most races, and then it must still be decyphered and interpreted. For this reason, only the longest-lived or immortal creatures (most notably the dragons of Argonessen, the elves of Aerenal, and the demons and rakshasa who somehow escaped internment by the couatl) ever attempt its study. Those who do often become obsessed, focusing on obscure passages and agonizing over minute details.    The scope of the Prophecy is truly vast - there are entire volumes that seem to have predicted creation itself (a paradox said to have driven some scholars mad as they peeled back the layers). Indeed, there is no way to positively confirm whether a particular fragment describes something that has happened, something that will happen, or something that both has happened and will happen again. But the single-most polarizing issue between scholars, one that has ended in bloodshed many times, is whether scholars should take an active hand in trying to bring the Prophecy about. Many do, regardless of the arguments against it, but whether those efforts make any impact whatsoever is yet another puzzle.
