Stand at Arimandrian

Written by Salen

The elven city of Arimandrian , located in the Forest of S'ren , was the site of one of the bravest stands of The Great War . It was early in the war and the elves were holding their own against the dwarves without the help from the humans, yet this battle took them by surprise. Normally the dwarves wouldn't be able to reach the tree cities with their Geratanks, but they had improved the style and the slimmer TNK 7 Wood mobile Geartank rolled over the trees and through the larger gaps and assaulted the city. It was so incredulous that the capital ofLyl refused to believe that the city was attacked. It wasn't until two days later when the survivors staggered into the capital that they believed the reports.

The Conflict

Prelude

Salen and the twelve magus were out on patrol when they heard cannon fire in the north of the forest. They sped through the trees and arrived in time to help save the city and drive the dwarves back..

Deployment

The elves were led by Archmagus Salen Alasari and his force of 12 magus, 20 eleven Kemin riders, and 70 elven warriors. They faced a force of 100 dwarves with 20 Geartank TNK 7's and portable cannons that were towed in through the woods.

Battlefield

Forest of S'ren, Northern city.

Outcome

Because of this defeat, the dwarves voted unanimously to start work on a controversial project. Clockwork people.

Aftermath

Arimandrian, after this battle, started beefing up defenses so this would never happen again. Today it is one of the more defensible cities in Syll.

Historical Significance

This day of battle was one for the stories, and indeed most bards know the words to this inspiring battle. Even dwarves, to this day, commend the elven forces for holding their own against superior forces. The magus's spells and the unrelenting spears of the Kemin riders kept the dwarves from advancing too far into the tree city, it was a back and forth battle, with each side gaining them losing ground. Salen was there, always in the front and is credited with taking out at least three TNK 7's singlehandedly, as well as saving three families that never got out in time. In the end, the surviving magus and Salen routed the remaining dwarves and this battle is cited as the final straw for the dwarven council to vote for the go ahead on the clockwork assassins.

The dwarves were routed with only 10 dwarves left on foot.

Objectives

To defend the city of Arimandrian
To take the city and make a launching base for attacks in the forest

That tree had taken so much damage that it couldn't possibly withstand much more, and in looking up, he saw it start to waver as if caught in a strong wind. Except no wind could ever move trees this size. It was in that moment that Salen saw a large group of elves running down the wooden stairs grown into the sides of the tree. His elven eyesight picked out a familiar elf helping them, using his magic to lower the young children even though he probably knew he wouldn't make it himself. Keni'dal. He's helping families that didn't get out in time and now that tree is coming down...unless I stop both tanks. He thought, as he gathered his courage around him like a cloak. He raced along the ground, finding a rider less Kemin and vaulting into the saddle. It raced ahead, part of its training from birth, and Salen called upon the wind and roots at the same time. He had never tried this and to maintain control it would take everything he had, but he had to try. - From the Stand at Arimandrian short story
