Magus

A Magus, or mage is a powerful spell caster that can work wonders with the five elements of nature. They do this by studying old spells and incantations that call upon the primal elements and cause certain effects within the purview of that element. They are usually elven, though over the years it has passed to anyone with or that carries elven blood. This is due to an ancient pact between Syll, Goddess of Magic & Nature and the elemental core of reality.

Perception

Purpose

The purpose of a mage is to exercise their will to cause effects in nature with the elements. They sculpt houses and other structures with natures help, instead of cutting down trees and wrecking the land around them.

Social Status

In elven society, mages are respected and revered, though not joining the Magus Guild tends to reflect on that perception. In other societies they are viewed less than grand, even being feared in Dwarven society.

History

Legend says that when Syll was making her second children, the Elves (Faeries being her first children) she wanted them to have a stronger attachment to the forces around them then the faeries did. She bargained with the very fabric of reality, called the Void, and offered up the blood of what would be the elves for reality to use to stabilize itself so that it could form wind, fire, water, earth, and love. Since it was connected to the blood of the elves, those beings could then call upon those forces and force their will to form things themselves. It wasn't until 20 SF, when the first Half-elves Showed latent ability. A lone half-elf child asked the air to hold his brother to keep him from falling into the sea and disrupted the entire Magus guild. It was then that they realized that it was just their blood. After that it was found that even some humans descended from elves could call upon the elements, albeit weekly.

Language

While the spells that were written can technically be said in any language, the spells were originally formed with the elven language in mind so work better when speaking that. That being said, the more powerful a connection that someone has to those elements, the less they need the technicalities. This is why sometimes young elves do not need the formal spells to ask the elements things and just force them by sheer power of their will. It also accounts for the wonder that is Raervyn Halloran , who can cast without any study due to the embedded star rock in her chest, as Star rock was part of the void originally
