Kitarel dresses simply and practically, primarily neutral colors and muted greens and blues. She wears a red rope wrapped around her left wrist and forearm: a gift from Delthin Vesneyva.
In combat she is protected by leather armor created from a golem. She wields a bow, Ionbreaker, the Tempest's Reach, as her weapon of choice. Additionally, she carries an Animated Shield and Goggles of Night when she goes on outings outside of Vareholm.

Personal history
Kitarel grew up an orphan in the Outer City of Baldur's Gate. As a child, she became an adept pickpocket and errand runner for Asell Zrutan, a prominent criminal and smuggler in the Gate's undergound and asset to the Thieve's Guild. Asell was not kind, however, and Kitarel often frequented the Shrine of the Suffering in the Lower City, where she met Delthin Vesneyva, a clergywoman of Ilmater.
As she grew older, Asell utilized Kitarel's natural skill for navigating both the city and the surrounding wilds and would send her to act as a guide for his associates. She aided in smuggling all kinds of goods into the city, from exotic animals to coin to monsters.
As the years wore on, the jobs became more high risk and dangerous for Kitarel. The cargo she was sent to retrieve became more aggressive, and the smugglers that came with them grew nastier as a result. When she was seventeen she was caught by the guard and sentenced to execution for smuggling. Asell waited until the last minute before her punishment to intervene, and Kitarel decided she had had enough. She turned to Delthin Vesneyva for aid, begging her to help her free herself of Asell's influence.
Delthin hid Kitarel from Asell, and Kitarel began working with bounty hunters while also working for Asell, using her knowledge of Asell's plans to thwart him. For a few months, she lived relatively peacefully. Then, when she was eighteen, Delthin passed away, and shortly after Asell discovered that Kitarel had betrayed him and put a price on her head.
Not wanting to cause trouble for the Ilmatari aiding her since Delthin's death, Kitarel took what coin she had and fled for Idriell, the Land of Horrors, banking on the fact that Asell wouldn't follow her to such a place.

Slew the wizard in the Mysterious Tower with a well-placed arrow, saving the lives of Caelam Zefer Heartstone, Delnis, Conviction Caleah, and Angelika Healsgood.
Was a part of the team that cleared the way for Shothotugg to be sent back to the Far Realm.

Being forced to flee the Gate before she could see any punishment come to Asell Zrutan.
Mental Trauma
Kitarel suffered greatly from the loss of Delthin Vesneyva, and has a deep rooted fear of people leaving her. This stems from Delthin's death and the fact that she grew up with no family and was only viewed as a pawn by Asell.
Her fear was exacerbated by a dream forced upon her by Myrkand when he made her party live their worse nightmares.

Kitarel is a strong believer that most people deserve second chances and help in any form, a view taken from Delthin.

Drinking to excess makes Kitarel slightly nervous, as many of the people she dealt with while working for Asell became belligerent when drunk.

Kitarel prays occasionally to Ilmater, the god of the oppressed and suffering, as was common among the poor of Baldur's Gate. Ilmater was also Delthin's god, and Kitarel's worship is in part homage to her.
