Cryostasis

Cryostasis units can keep people in hibernation for centuries, but there are drawbacks: Long-term cryostasis causes cellular deterioration which can lead to cancer, sterility and teratogenesis. That is why the Ark’s colonists (and their ancestors) live in Biospheres instead of hibernating in cryostasis pods.
There are crew members and technicians in cryostasis in Hull Sector Η6. Their services are only required during launch and planetfall. Some of them may be revived mid-voyage to deal with problems.
