Galehardt "Gale" Aegis
"He is a tormented soul of course. But under that rusted facade I have never met another so caring, loving, dutiful; a man capable of great kindness. And overwhelming destruction when that which he loves is threatened."Aldmira Aegis
Galehardt Aegis was born a human in the city of Hightower in the region currently known as New Iskar on the 30th of Stormtide in 6696 CY. His birth resulted in the death of his mother in childbed and a period of deep grief for his father. Gale spent much of his formative years learning the demanding trade of blacksmithing from his sole remaining parent. A playful boy in his youth, he was quick to make friends wherever he went, yet his idyllic life would be suddenly interrupted by a kidnapping at the young age of 14. Stolen away by a shadowy group, they preformed a vile ritual on him, cursing him with a power he could not control. He awoke after the completion of the ritual with no memory of what transpired, surrounded by the burnt out corpses of his kidnappers. Dazed and confused he would attempt to return home when he was struck by the sight of a mugging in the middle of the street. Filled with an overwhelming wrath at the sight, he immediately murdered the man, seemingly without thought. Unfortunately, this was no mugging at all. Gale had interrupted a local nobles unwanted and aggressive advance at a common woman, and with the murder Gale was forced to flee his home in Hightower by his father, cast out from the only world he'd ever known.
Over time this unidentifiable urge to purge "evil" would grow nearly uncontrollable, even the smallest crime began to spark rage and wroth from somewhere deep inside his soul. With this came powers, slow at first but increasing over time, shaping a young innocent soul into a weapon for some other purpose... until it began to reveal itself through horrifying nightmares of a distant land, with strange creatures and faces. These terrors would plague him night after night for years, undeterred by drink and seemingly abated only when indulging in the fury he was cursed with, or following their direction. He developed a near addiction to destroying that which was considered "evil" by his urges, and would spend the next three years throwing himself into war, unknowingly seeking death or release from his curse. Changing over time, undistinguishable from how he looked or acted years prior, he slowly began to transform into what can now be recognized as an Aasimar.
Interpreting the signs from his dreams, he was able to discover it was Ma'liki who was sending them, the Archangel of Destiny. It must have been him who coordinated the transformation of Gale into what he had become, for some otherworldly purpose for the "greater good" and forcing him into this cruel, lonely life. Unable to resist the urge given by the visions to travel northeast, he eventually made his way into the Free Marches, unknowing if we would finally find release there.
