Blood Oak

The first time I traveled to the Pagan Hills I touched a blood oak's trunk. In all my life I have never experienced so much pain. I begged our guide to chop of my hand. The pain was simply unbearable. Luckily he merely knocked me out and brought me to the nearest healer.
— Jareb Bonavine, famous explorer

The blood oak is a poisonous tree native to the Pagan Hills. Their distinctive blood-red bark and purple leaves makes them stand out amongst the rest of the greenery. Under ghynzuan law it is forbidden to cut down a blood oak. Officially this law came about because the pagans view these trees as sacred. It is a well-kept secret though that the pagans use these trees to create powders and poisons for The Order of Seykin.

Poison Oak

Every part of the blood oak is poisonous. From its bark, to the leaves and even the acorns. Merely touching it is enough to have a severe and painful reaction. In most cases being poisoned by a blood oak is not lethal, but it is extremely painful and causes a rash. When left untreated it can take up to four days before the pain and rash is completely gone.

Colorful Tree

The blood oak gets its name from the blood-red color of its trunk and branches. The leaves are purple, lighter in spring and darker in autumn. Why exactly it is poisonous is not exactly known. Some herbologists believe though that the colors of the blood oak would normally attract many animals who would eat its acorns, leaves and bark. Therefore it developed a defense mechanism to protect itself and its offspring. Animals quickly learn how painful the tree is and look for food elsewhere.

Treatment

Hira Osu oil is the best remedy when treating the painful rash from the blood oak. It is rubbed into the affected skin and reapplied as often as needed. The oil helps relieve the pain and swelling. It also helps to reduce the rash.
