Familial Soldiers {Kaiyocea}

Frequently mislabeled as "Samurai" outside of Kaiocea, Familial soldiers occupy many different ranks and titles. Often carrying Water Breathing Rings to show their heritage, along with a long a dynastic-like tradition of the eldest generation raising the youngest, there are thousands of these families in Kaiyocea. While many do not belong to one, as they are antiquated in many senses, they still command a decent amount of respect throughout Kaiyocea.
These families will often own a large amount of land, which in turn will often support a business or clan profession. While almost all families are trained in combat first, they often have an traditional job in times of peace. Farming, smithing, merchantry or bodyguarding are the most common, although countless exist. Families will traditionally support their local city or province, and often are politically involved with the local Commission. Within the families, several ranks exist, symbolizing both experience and proficiency - the highest, daimyo, the most well known, samurai, the slightly lower saburai, and the bushi and kerai. Daimyo are the eldest members of the family, or sometimes, the most skilled. Many families eldest will retire, leading to the next daimyo being designated. Samurai and Saburai are often older individuals, who have become proficient in combat and Samurai are respected as the cream of the crop. Bushi are those still in training, while Kerai are those who either have no interest and still wish to remain in the family or are not ready to begin training.
Contrary to beliefs in other realms, Familial soldiers do not just use a katana or nami-katana. Often, their primary weapon is dependent on the family - Bubblefly axes, naginata, leimano, teunun, clubs, Firearms and Arcanarms. Traditionally, one must learn the weapon of their family, and those who refuse to or otherwise disgrace the family are known as Ronin. Nowadays, some families are moving away from such penalizing measures, instead limiting rank and participation in the family. However, Ronin are not uncommon in Kaiyocea, and descendants of long-dead Ronin often have the knowledge of their forbearers.
