Water Breathing Accessories

In Kaiyocea, people born without natural water breathing have long since sought a backup, a protection against a potential failure of air totems. Water breathing rings had been worn by less aquatically adept people for most of Kaiyocea's history. The backup for if air totems ever failed was the original purpose, but the convenience of these items allowed the amount in the world to grow exponentially. More are still being actively produced, as some are lost, and constant improvements keep demand growing. A newer water ring might offer a quick - drying, water grip, or even dry-keeping enchantments, all for a pretty penny of course.   However, some families pass their rings down, a long - held tradition in Kaiyocea. In older times, rings were a sign of status, and among the descendants of those people, several rings might float around in the family, passing along when their owners have no need of them. An ornate, older ring might hint at a family heritage, especially of explorers, warriors or merchants, who often have jobs that require leaving the space of air totems. While certainly less advanced then modern rings with constantly improving enchantments, these rings are valued far more by their owners.   Other water breathing accessories exist, usually other jewelry such as anklets, bracelets or necklaces. Far closer to uncommon, these accessories are often out of the order in Kaiyocea, and are often bought by outsiders. It is important to note that Kaiyoceans never wear non-ceremonial headgear, so any Cap of Water Breathing was created outside of the Meritocracy of Kaiyocea. Kaiyoceans regard these particular creations as flawed and disgraceful, and the vehement rejection of them often surprises outsiders.
