Air Totems

Air Totems, along with Water Breathing Accessories form the basis for Kaiyocean society, as well as being the two most venerated Magi-Mechanics there. Air totems work on a very similar fundamental level to Water Breathing Rings, removing water and replacing it with air. The difference is that while rings will allow this to occur within a body, Totems operate outwards, creating a sphere of air around the Totem.

These totems occupy a special place for Kaiyocea. While many newer Magi-Mechanics originate from Aerava, Air Totems are an ancient Magi-Mechanic, created in Kaiyocea. Because of this, they have significant cultural importance, said to ward off evil ocean spirits who wished the settlers of the ocean harm, Air Totems are always decorated by local artisan with paint, carvings and ornaments. One can tell when the city was established by the decor on the Central Air Totem - the older, the more faded the paint, the more traditional the carvings - but the newer are splashed with neon graffiti, and trinkets from the community.
