Personality

Vereena has a no-nonsense and often blunt attitude. She's quick to identify advantages and disadvantages and can be impatient when others are inefficient. Vereena was initially criticized by party members for being unfaltering in killing enemies, even injured or surrendered. As an authority figure, she is resolute and stern, holding her troops to high standards of conduct and discipline.

Having served much of her career on the front lines, Vereena is internally judgemental of those who make decisions in light of military efforts and lives. This stems from her fierce loyalty to her troops. Despite some brashness, she'll acknowledge legitimate contributions, no matter how small or simple.

Timeline

Session 16: Enter Black Wolf
Vereena Pembroke met the party on 11 Orult 412 ERS when Commander Senna Mograich requested them to assist the seasoned captain who hadn't reported in since skirmishes Sterncroft against Morgardian troops. Upon finding her, most of her soldiers had been killed by a 'formidable bodyguard' wearing Black Wolf armor. She was wary of the 'freelancers' sent to assist her.

After fighting the remaining Morgardians, Vereena methodically finished off wounded enemies to the disapproval of Ataraxia and Navneet. She openly praised Garin who fought in the thick of the encounter, offering to, "buy [him] a beer." However when Garin suggested deviating from the plan to head to the Highbarrows, she chided him, saying he's, "quite the fighter but not quite the thinker."

Session 17: The Highbarrows
At the Highbarrows, Vereena needed resuscitation in the ensuing fight. She voiced her support for Ahriman when he killed a surrendered enemy, believing the surrender wasn't genuine as she recognized the enemy from previous skirmishes. Vereena argued with Ataraxia, justifying her actions against all those in crimson tabards. She proclaimed her eagerness to finish and be done with the cleric.

Back in Brisburg, the tired captain dutifully delivers her report to Commander Mograich. Vereena requested to redeploy with new troops as soon as possible. After she was dismissed, Navneet raised concerns to Commander Mograich, saying Vereena was a, "bad guy," for killing surrendered enemies. Commander Mograich diplomatically suggested that Vereena, "had her reasons."
Short Story: Despair's Poison
Ahead of Morgard's siege of Brisburg on 14 Orult 412 ERS, Vereena was atop Brisburg's high city walls reflecting on the 'freelancers' and the gratitude she couldn't convey. During tactical meetings at Brisburg City Hall with Commander Mograich and Mayor Antonius Steltheim, Vereena was frustrated at the attempts to appease Morgard with lands her troops fought (and died) to defend. The 'poison' of despair and cynicism loomed until she overheard asinine chatter regarding the graphic manner in which her soldiers would fight the Morgardians scaling the walls.

As much for the soldiers as for herself, Vereena rallied the troops with an inspiring speech. While acknowledging the Morgardians' strengths and reality of the situation, she boldly claimed that the crimson of their tabards was due to the fear seeing their own blood.

Session 32: Keldan's Belongings
Prior to a meeting at City Hall, Garin and Keldan briefly discuss Vereena's promotion to Commander after the death of Senna Mograich. Keldan commented on her strength as a leader with potential for joining the Grey Company if she wasn't loyal to Brisburg. When Vereena sees Garin arrive with Keldan, she feigns knowing him.

Once Keldan leaves and Garin hears a retelling of the siege and surrender of the city, Vereena gets emotional and upset for the soldiers who, "died in vain." She proposes covertly meeting with party members at the Headman's Drink.

Skills Vereena wears half plate armor and has been seen using a heavy crossbow and longsword.
