Potter's Harbor

Potter's Harbor is the Common translation of the name of the nearest extant settlement to Red Pillar City. It's a former boom town that used to be the export hub for the cinnabar, quicksilver, and vermillion pigment that Red Pillar City produced.

Government

Imperial city with an appointed mayor and magistrates, with an elected council of aldermen acting as an advisory and approval authority for the mayor's decisions.

Defences

Surrounded by a strong city wall of local stone. The city guard is small and ill-disciplined.

Industry & Trade

Named for its pottery industry. Glazed terracotta pottery was used to ship the toxic mercury products of Red Pillar City. The region lacks quality clay deposits, so the pots were made in the nearest port, where clay can be more easily imported.
Soon, a distinctive vermillion glaze and decorative style emerged and made the town a regional center for pottery production. Although the pottery industry declined when Red Pillar City fell, it survived better than the rest of the economy (which was based on supplying the mines and exporting their products).

Guilds and Factions

The Adventurers' Guild has a strong presence here, with a small office next to the Rising Sun Inn.

The Azalea Order has a supply depot and administrative office here.

History

As soon as the mining camp at Red Pillar City was established, the small fishing village where Potter's Harbor is now located expanded into a boom town, thriving on the trade to and from the cinnabar mines.

When Red Pillar City was evacuated, the imperially-appointed mayor and the council of aldermen had enough influence to persuade the imperial court to strengthen the walls of the city to protect it from the scourge of undead. The expense of the works was disproportionate to the economic value of the city.

The city has since fallen into decline. The once fancy facades of the buildings haven't been repainted in 85 years.
