Drintera® goes back to the roots of fantasy—mythology and folklore—to design a fantasy TTRPG setting where adventurers strive toward heroic ideals. Courage, loyalty, resourcefulness—in Drintera, being a hero means bringing out the best in yourself and in your companions. Your deeds make the world a better place.

Tenets of Drintera

Deep Storytelling: The diverse lands of Drintera beckon adventurers with rich, believable storytelling. Conflicts go beyond good versus evil—and some problems can’t be solved by fighting.

Diverse Representation: Drintera is a passion project to enrich fantasy by drawing on cultures and folklore from around the world. We're building an entire world, not just the Europe clone. We adhere to the principle of "nothing about us, without us"—we recruit writers who are qualified to represent the cultures they draw inspiration from.

Rules Light: Our emphasis is on deep lore and narrative potential. While we provide notes on how to play Drintera using Tales of the Valiant (a 5.5E compatible system) and Pathfinder Second Edition, we don't emphasize original rules content. This means Drintera is mostly system agnostic: worldbuilding first and foremost!

Shaped by Magic: Magic in Drintera is wondrous and follows narrative logic. Even the gods cannot control the ebb and flow of supernatural forces. Auras called dwimmers rise and subside, creating enchanted places of wonder—or dread. While no one can control dwimmers, mortal actions can shape them. A great tragedy can beset the land with a curse, and a heroic quest can lift the curse. That's why Drintera will always need heroes.

Lands of Adventure: The world's varied locations are designed to spark many kinds of stories. Low fantasy skullduggery and dungeon crawling or high fantasy wonders and thrills can be found at different destinations. There are regions designed for adventures of swashbuckling action, political intrigue, Gothic horror, crime, medieval romance, sword and sorcery, and more. Change your stories by traveling from one region to another.

Creative Fuel for Players and Game Masters: Drintera is designed with the do-it-yourself game master in mind. You can play in it as written or borrow your favorite parts for your homebrew campaign. We're making nations, factions, gods and sects, legends, adventure locations, story ideas, villains, and creature lore to inspire your game!
