The High Dremoran Council

Within the central spire of the Tower Citadel at the heart of Eredet, the High Dremoran Council – composed of 12 members – meets around a circular table to discuss all continent affairs, proposing and passing laws and legislation, easing tensions between regions, and seeking to advance their own individual agendas...

The Current High Dremoran Council

As the High Dremoran Council is supposed to reflect the unique characteristics, ideals, interests, and positions of the 12 – now 11 – regions of Dremora, The "election" process varies for each seat. Certain members are elected by their people directly or by a subgroup of representatives, while others may simply inherit the position. While all members share the goal of bettering and protecting the entire continent, their individual agendas and goals often lead to debate. And the downfall of any form of democracy... is that debate often takes time.

History of the Council

The development and formation of what is now the High Dremoran Council reflects the growth and development of a small religious community to the burgeoning city and center of commerce, knowledge, and culture that Eredet is today. Not only does the Council represent the various regions of Dremora, but they represent their associated deity and the concept of unity, a tenet of The One.

The Council of Eredet

Before the High Dremoran Council, there was the Council of Eredet. It was originally composed of just 5 members and was primarily responsible for overseeing all "mundane governmental affairs". It would serve as the governing body of Eredet from 1 YAR to 502 YAR. See The Council of Eredet for a more detailed history and a list of original members and founder.

Formation of the High Dremoran Council

In 502 YAR, the Council of Eredet – under pressure from the ever-growing, increasingly diverse population – unanimously decided to expand the governing body to include a representative from all regions of Dremora. With the growth of the city over the past 5 centuries, Eredet had become a melting pot of culture, trade, and ideas. The eyes of teh continent were beginning to turn towards the city. Pressure to expand the Council came not only from within, but from outside.

Despite the growing interest from the rest of the continent, the original members of the High Dremoran Council were generally chosen from those currently living in Eredet. Often, they were first generation immigrants who had lived most, or perhaps even all of their lives in Eredet, but had family members from or memories of the regions they represented. As the continent as a whole continued to grow, standardization of some facets of life, religion, and economy were desired... and Eredet was more than happy to provide the governing body to oversee such affairs. The Council grew in power alongside the prestige of Eredet. As the various regions began to recognize the growing power and influence of the High Dremoran Council, they began to send representatives from their political elite. It wasn't, however, until after the Dread King's War that the High Dremoran Council became THE governing body of Dremora.

The Original High Dremoran Council included the Grand Priest (though informally). The original 12 members are preserved in the architecture of the Tower Citadel, which was constructed after the original council was formed.
