Frozen Climbs
While technically only the icy mountain range which marks the northern border of the Imperium, the Frozen Climbs is used almost interchangeably with Norinia to refer to the territories controlled by the White Dragon Curse, Nixalia the Barbarous. This area then also includes the frozen coasts and tundras of Norinia under the Elder Dragon's rule, which are primarily inhabited by Lycans and the race of humans of her own design known as the Thals. The Thals keep a significant number of slave laborers, mostly Miridians but potentially any race they managed capture and haul back home. And lastly are the elite female fighting force, the Valkyries. While these groups do not intermix significantly, they maintain neutral to good terms due to their shared allegiance to Nixalia.
The Climbs are a tough place to call home. The ground is hard and often frozen, making growing crops a difficult and laborious endeavor. The primary reason the Thals keep so many slaves is to work their fields and fishing boats to generate enough food to feed the masters. Slaves are worked literally to death from exposure or starvation, as the harsh environment seemingly cannot support a stable population at its current size. The Lycans' much more meat centric diets are seemingly more sustainable, as they hunt, fish, and herd animals like sheep and caribou to feed themselves. But both groups also regularly strike out and raid for goods and captives to maintain their ways of life.
While Thal and Lycan raiders are infamous across the Norinian Sea and northern coasts of Miridia, they are greatly overshadowed by the renowned Valkyries. The pegasus riding warrior women are selected from newly conquered captives and trained in the art of war. Those who survive the training go on to become fighters of legend, seen by some as peerless in all the Imperium.
The Frozen Climbs are an unforgiving home, but from those brutal living conditions spring some of the hardest fighters in all of the Imperium.
