Heka

Geography

Composition: 30% water, 70% land
Weather conditions: Mild seasons (winters dip down to barely below freezing, summers rarely reach triple digits)
Biomes: Canyons, forests, oceans, mountains, arctic, tropical
Moons: Five (Ma Thuat, Mahou, Mabeob, Draiochta, and Jadu)
Most Hekans live on the main planet, but several families live on one of the four moons, primarily teachers of a particular discipline taught on the planet or rich families that can afford to send their children to the mainland every year for their initial years of schooling.
Visitors in general are rare, preferring to tour other nearby star systems, particularly the large amusement system in the cluster. However, visitors do come occasionally, enjoying the "small town" feel of the system as compared to the "metropolitan" feel of the larger systems. Many Hekan towns are large, with an average population of 5 million, but due to their culture of magic over technology, the towns feel more like what on Earth would be considered a small-town mindset and atmosphere.

School runs two semesters a year, one in the summer and one in the winter. A year is measured from the beginning to spring until the end of winter, leaving the students free during spring and fall. Schooling starts at age 5, where all kids attend schools on the main planet. Here they learn all the non-magical things they need to. At age 10, students are free to explore different disciplines of magic. Many of the schools of discipline reside on the moons, although there are quite a few on the mainland for students who don't want to travel too far. By 12, they're expected to have settled on one or two to focus on, which they continue to study until age 15, when they can graduate and leave school regardless of skill level. Some students spend their three required years exploring all the disciplines, becomes jacks of magic rather than learning a specific one.
After graduation, Hekans can learn the spell Onomas.
The moons of Heka primarily serve as school zones for the various disciplines of magic.
Ma Thuat: The largest moon, Ma Thuat claims the largest school for defensive arts. Most of its students are shield mages. Many students from here also attend Draiochta's School for the Healing Arts. This moon has the largest number of disciplinary students, many of whom graduate in one of the specialty disciplines.
Mahou: The second largest moon, Mahou has on it the largest school for offensive magic. Its specialty is curse magic. More student come here casually than any other moon, but most move on to another for their focused discipline.
Mabeob: The second smallest moon, Mabeob holds the most schools that specialize in summoning and movement magic such as teleportation and levitation. However, also on it is the largest school for weaponry fighting, for students who prefer enhancing weapons to battle rather than combat with magic. It exports largely these enhanced weapons, but most of its graduates are creature summoners.
Draiochta: The smallest moon, Draiochta houses the largest school for mental magics such as illusions, possession, disease, health, and other status-type magics. Few students choose to spend much time here beyond the healing arts, which is its largest product of students.
Jadu: An artificial moon created specifically to train earth mages, the only students who attend school here. The moon has regularly scheduled practice times for students to manipulate the moon itself.
