Overview
A volcano which forms the center of the Xazdos Island ring, and thought to be the center or origin of the world. Once part of a single, large island until a massive eruption destroyed much of the mountain.
Characteristics
Though much smaller than in primitive times, Xazdos volcano still covers a large area. Four smaller islands ring its circumference, though all once were connected. The volcano itself rises high in the sky, high enough to have snow on its upper reaches year round. Lava and gases constantly ooze out from various vents. It very rarely erupts, though it has the power to affect the entire world's climate when it does.
The Baked Shrine, home to the stone form of the God of Summer, resides somewhere on the volcano. Any human or Gendirl who travels to this main island usually never returns, mysteriously vanishing from the face of the world.
History
Mythology states that when the Six formed the world, the God of Summer was the second to act, melting the core of rock built by the God of Strength. Its heat burst forth from below in what was Xazdos' first eruption, spewing mineral rich rock and ash throughout the land.
Even after the taint of water being added by the Maker, Xazdos Volcano rose high above any flood that the world suffered. Ultimately more land rose from the new oceans, though none of it ever touched the volcano. At this time in history the land was all one piece, punctuated in the center by an inland lake larger than modern Great Lake Lavoxen, which in turn was punctuated by Xazdos Volcano.
Its occasional eruptions have altered the course of history. The first recorded eruption may have caused the cold period that spurred the evolution of the earliest Gendirl species, including the
Failers and the
Kundego. The most recent eruption occurred right after the evolution of the
Coloktialo, who used the tempest created by the volcano to create the
pact that allows all Gendirlo to live in peace and safety.
