Failer (FAY-lur)

Overview

Failers are the smallest of the Gendirl species, growing as large as a human infant. They are reptilian with red and white scales, biped with arms and wings, and the ability to exhale flames.

Characteristics

Failers live in the forests of Dosjorya, primarily south of the Great Achton River. Their size makes them vulerable to threats from the weather and from non-Gendirl predators. Red on their backs and white on their undersides, they are easy to spot through the brush, which Failers use to their advantage to remain in groups.
Their shape resembles a cross between a bird and a lizard, giving them the ability to fly and agility to climb trees and crawl into small alcoves with speed and precision. Their claws are sharp enough to rip through flesh easily but are too small to inflict a serious wound in a larger animal.
Gifted to them during the Age of Legends by the god of Summer, Failers have the ability to exhale white hot flames at will. Human researchers compare this to fire spells done by conjurers, and incorrectly concluded Failers could use magic. Failers cannot use magic, and their method of breathing out fire differs from the spell to create fire. As the Failers understand it, a piece of the Summer god lives in in each and every one of them, providing the spark that ignites flammable gases produced by their stomach and funneled into a sac along their windpipe.
