The Silver Adepts

The Silver Adepts were an elite organization of warrior clerics that were an offshoot of the Nevar Adepts. Their main task was to protect and safeguard the country from the plague of undead creatures released into the lands by the Black Priest, Dumak Leth during the Priest War.

Manpower

The numbers enrolled in the Silver Adepts has fluctuated widely over time from a few dozen to over 200 at their height.

Equipment

Each member of the Silver Adepts is responsible for selecting his or her own equipment according to what they believe makes them the most efficient. The church initially pays for and supplies what is requested, upon entering the Silver Adepts and for any mission requests. Most starting members begin with blessed chain mail armor, shield, and long sword. Most already own a horse and eventually acquire specialized or magical equipment over time and through missions.

Weaponry

Most members carry any variety of sword with most choosing long swords, maces are also popular, and a few take up war hammers, flails, and morning stars.

Vehicles

The typical vehicles so to speak are simply their horses and perhaps some supply wagons.

Structure

Command structures vary quite wildly depending on the mission and the numbers and skills of the adepts present. Generally the newest members look up to the leadership of the experienced veterans. It is usually these veterans who lead the groups of commanders who in turn lead their squads of up to ten individuals.

Training

Training has unknowingly been going on through their time spent with the Nevar Adepts and through small test missions during their "Silver Path" instructional program. They are trained in the arts of healing, religious prayer, wilderness survival, horseman ship, scouting, hand to hand combat, shielding techniques, blunt weapons, edged weapons, crossbows, and battle formations.

Recruitment

Recruits are usually selected from the ranks of the Nevar Adepts. All members are required to have some skill and training at healing and calling forth the holy power of their patron goddess. Those that show more of an aptitude for combat and are searching for a more proactive means of defending their faith are often candidates for consideration into the Silver Adepts. An intense scrutiny and training program follows called the "Silver Path". Their is no set time limit and small mission tests often determine who is selected. Typically selection ceremonies takes place on the solstices and equinoxes of the year and assignments immediately follow.

History

First founded in 920 B.S., the Silver Adepts were formed at the request of the church of Alacrita, Goddess Of Life And Healing by the Nevar Adepts. Undergoing extensive training the new Silver Adepts were supplied and sent out to combat the evil undead terrorizing the lands. After several generations, this new holy fighting force was able to eventually push the hordes of the undead back from the borders of Lucien and into the border lands between the kingdoms of Nosveren, Malstrigoi, and the Mirusi Lands. Unfortunately due to political issues, the Silver Adepts could not carry their crusade into these foreign kingdoms. It is believed that this allowed the undead masses to grow and reorganize under new masters and eventually counterstrike against the Silver Adepts in the years 765 B.S. and 764 B.S. Greatly diminished from these devastating attacks, both the Nevar Adepts and the Silver Adepts were finally destroyed in 763 B.S. The few survivors reorganized under the leadership of Meryl Dawnstar, forming her Flaming Fists and Blazing Hands as they struck a fierce campaign against the undead and their masters.
