In life, Strahd von Zarovich was a count, a prince, a soldier, and a conqueror. After the death of his father, King Barov, Strahd waged long, bloody wars against his family’s enemies. He and his army cornered the last of these enemies in a remote mountain valley before slaying them all. Strahd named the valley Barovia, after his deceased father, and was so struck by its scenic beauty that he decided to settle there.
Count Strahd Von Zarovich is a vampire lord and ruler of Barovia. Player characters have revealed little information about him to date.

Barovians believe him to be a vampire and most live in fear of him many unwilling to even speak his name.
He resides in Castle Ravenloft.
He refers to Ireena Kolyanovich as Tatyana.
Rahadin is his right hand man.
Vistani claim that in the past the Vistani saved him from his enemies during the conquest of Barovia. Due to this Strahd has sworn a blood oath that Vistani are always to roam free. Vistani are free to come and go from Barovia.

Their first interaction was in Village of Barovia when he visited Ismark and Ireena Kolyonovich. Strahd gave his condolences about their father Indirovich. He invited Ireena to live with him at Castle Ravenloft referring to her as Tatyana. He suggested Dildu go see the Abbot in Krezk about his urniary tract infection after urinating on the statue in the crypts under Durst Manor. He said to Napoc he sensed his celestial bloodline. Stronger than the other one he sensed in his domain.
Their second interaction was in Vallaki during the Wachter coup. Strahd entered the climactic battle between the remains of Burgomaster Vargas Vallakovichs city guard and the rebellion led by Fiona Wachter and one of Strahd's wives. Strahd arrested Fiona and slayed his consort with sunlight.
