Power Armour

For gameplay purposes, Power Armour counts as most enchanted armour. Ask your DM which mark you want and they'll find or create an appropriate item. Or vice versa.

Sepo pattern armour is a simple type created by the original guild in the middle of the Long War. It was a complete overhaul and improvement of the original armour mark being used, the Segozko pattern. Despite it being outclassed by some newer marks, even at its own gimmick, the Sepo mark still sees production due to the relative ease of rune inscribing. The Segozko has been completely discontinued and is only valuable as a collector's relic. Both patents are currently owned by the Arkonaut Corporation.

Shenyes pattern armour was developed around the same time as the Sepo pattern, but without any sort of predecessor. It is usually inscribed into Brigandine rather than plate, thus making production extremely difficult. Shenyes armour increases the endurance of the wearer as well as their movement speed, rendering it extremely useful for scouts and outsiders. Hence the change in armour. A cousin pattern, developed in the last 75 years of the Long War, was designed to be inscribed onto plate. This Seniba armour has seen limited production, largely due to Arkonaut Corporation copyright issues. Both patents are currently owned by the Arkonaut Corporations

Setulgov pattern armour was explicitly designed for Wyches to manifest more power. It has halted production since the end of the Long War, but is still relatively common. What the pattern does is force an override of the body's natural shutdown of too much magical energy. This allows for vastly increased power of spells, but can also lead to the quick death of the wearer if they are not careful. Lati experience no change while wearing this armour, as it uses Necromantic runes to manipulate the body's limits.

Cataphract pattern armour was officially put into production in the last year of the Long War, and saw its first deployment in the final battle, the Siege of Castelan Ward. It was designed to heal the wearer after injury. The healing takes effect immediately and can treat wounds up to major organ failure. It won't regrow a limb, but it will heal a broken bone or severed muscle and has even kickstarted someone's still heart. Several issues have arisen, however. The effects of the Cataphract armour can be intense, and many suffer cardiac and neural arrest due to the intensity of the magic overloading their system. Secondly, the armour heals and joins without care for proper biology. Many have suffered broken bones while wearing the armour, and have healed incorrectly. The severity has ranged from a rough patch of skin to the complete removal of a joint.
Lastly, the armour is far more finite than other marks. All runes will eventually run out of power, but they last so long that for mortals, they're functionally infinite. Not so here, as Cataphract armour will lose effectiveness after 3 months of constant use. The runes could be reinscribed, but the difficulty in doing so while leaving the armour usable has left the easier solution of melting it down and starting from scratch or using the metal for something else. The residue of the magic on the metal has caused mutations among those in constant close contact with the residue, and has caused an increase in magic going haywire. The Akroni senate is reviewing a proposal to ban the production of Cataphract armour due to these concerns. Lati, despite their inability to use Cataphract armour effectively, have shown an interest in it, namely for the affects of the residue. The patent for Cataphract pattern armour is owned by the Arkonaut Corporation

Sesoz pattern armour is the immediate successor to Sepo pattern armour. Also known as Sepo Mark II, Sesoz has increased the strength enhancements of Sepo armour without any drawbacks. This was done through the use of Necromancy as well as Abjuration runes, rendering this armour unusable for Lati. THe patent for Sesoz pattern armour is owned by the Arkonaut Corporation.

Geladad pattern armour is the Larani's answer to Sepo pattern armour. It is produced in basically the same way, excepting the style of armour used as the base. Creation and use of Geladad armour is illegal in Akronis due to it interfering with the Arkonaut patent. It's use is also fairly uncommon in the core territories of Laran itself, being most common in peripheries and border territories. This is due to many Lati's open revulsion of what they see as a disrespect of traditional craftsmanship. The border territories, oft disregarded and disconnected by the centers of power, culture, and Lati history, embraced the new practices as a way to even the playing field during conflicts with their brethren in the Deserts, Jungles, and Mesas. The center of Geladad armour production is in the city of Chashanku.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Power Armour is relatively simple as far as enchanted armours go. It needs to be in order for mass production to work. Metal armour, usually steel, will be created in a mold, half assembled. It is a cm thick, with certain hollow sections in the interior to allow runes to be inscribed. The filled-in sections have occasional tubing carved in to act as power conduits. Once the runes have been scribed by the enchanter, the interior face of the plate is added, and ta da.

History

Enchanted armour has been used in Diyu for as long as mages and armoursmiths have existed. However, the standardization of enchanted armour into the commonly referred to "Power Armour" only came about during the early days of the Long War. A now extinct Akroni artificer guild developed a standardized template that would allow enchanters to produce armour quickly, with the drawback of reduced quality. Certain Larani states adopted the practice, and became war leaders as a result. However, the ritualization and reverence for armour enchantment has kept mass production from becoming widespread across Laran. In contrast, most Akroni elite regiments are fully equipped with cheaper marks.

Power armour production in Akronis dipped during the mid to late Long War, as the guild responsible for most of the production was wiped out after a Lati glassed the entire state the guild was operating out of. Shortly after, the Arkonaut Corporation took over, pattenting most of the common marks today, and developing more.

Significance

Power armour drastically increased both the lethality and the survivability of warfare. It all depends on whether the soldier in question is fighting with, wearing, or fighting against the power armour.

Rarity
The rarity of Power Armour depends on the mark. Arkonaut  produced Power Armour is relatively common in Akronis, with the more advanced marks being far rarer. Lati made power armour is extremely rare, as there is no mass production, and common mark templates are far more of a suggestion than a standard.
