Floating Isles of Karanor

The Floating Isles of Karanor are linked with the two cities of Tirokan and Varusmarsh, built into the great trees that populate the Everlasting Jungle Depths.

The isles themselves are arranged in a warped circle, all revolving around the isle of Onti Thoyt. THe fourth isle rests at the center, close enough that a large bridge was built between it and the second isle, third isle, and fifth isle. The first isle drifts in and out of contact with the second isle, and the seventh doe the same with the fifth. The sixth isle is permanently farther from the rest, only accessible when the fifth isle drifts close to it once a month.

Twice a year, the isles will drift into the canopy of Tirokan, and twice a year they drift into the canopy of Varusmarsh. The third and first isles come within contact with the former city's branches. The fifth and fourth come into contact with the latter city's branches

Geography

The Seven Isles of Karanor are an ancient archipelago of seven large floating islands, drifting in a consistent circle above the Everlasting Jungle. They vary in size, ranging from 10000 square kilometers down to 3000. This is in addition to the many smaller isles that surround them, most of which are barely 1-kilometer square. The Isles have largely similar topography but are different in some key ways.

Gapswtice Re (Gap Situutse Re) is the Farmer's Island, the first isle of Karanor. The majority of the Isles' food output came from here. None of the crops are native to the island, but the native plants have largely died out. It is about 8000 km2.

Yt Li Re (Yit Li Re) is Den Island, the second isle of Karanor. It used to be used as a large pasture for the wild stock of the isles' shepherds, but since the Wargrove's seizure of the isle, it has become a Dragon Den, and their base of operations. Now it is overgrown with the plants that the Wargroves of Wanaso need to keep a stable base. It is about 9000 km2.

Kraeth (Kraeth) is the Island of the Forge, the third isle of Karanor. While no means the only place with blacksmiths and armourers, the vast underground complexes where rune inscribed armour, weapons, building materials, and other metal items were forged became famous across the Ever-Jungle. It is about 3000 km2.

Onti Thoyt (Onti Thoyt) is the Shattered Remnant, the fourth isle of Karanor. Or at least it was. Records say it used to be similar to Uk Nkcwre in topography, and it acted as a backup in its function. However, the wrath of Daeldrien fell upon it, and the isle wash shattered into fragments by the dragon's might. Its remnants make up much of the smaller floating islands that accompany the big seven, though a large amount remains in the fourth isle's old position. They create a treacherous battlefield and act as the main spot of conflict, aided by the fourth's position as the junction between the 2nd, 5th, and 3rd isles.

Mi E Re (mmi e re) is the Stronghold Island, the fifth isle of Karanor. The entire island and its underground are covered in city, with near no open spaces at all. It is an example fo the civilization the Dawasi could create if they had the resources to do so. At its very center is a fortress, buried in the rock, behind a winding maze, stocked with soldiers. IT was meant as a fallback for the city's population but has since been turned into the center of civilization on the island. The cities themself are treacherous, with constant fighting and bandits galore. A few small pockets have been walled off and turned into settlements. It is 7000 km2.

Nkcwsae Nkcwre (nnkuusae nnkuure) is the Volcano Island, the sixth isle of Karanor. It was dedicated to the Coven of Fire, Karanor's native Wych Cult. It was largely a mountainous temple island, centered on the volcano at its peak. The volcano makes carving into the Sotteran of the island impossible, and also acts as th cause of the lava that streams from the bottom of the isle, into the jungle below.

Ohe Re (Ohe Re) is the Royal island, the seventh isle of Karanor. It is the personal land of Karanor's monarchy, or at least it was. At its rocky center was the massive royal palace, with the rest of the building and land on the island being the personal grounds of the monarchy. A few select noble families are granted houses on the island, at the monarch's behest. These were all the old traditions, however, the island still acts as the base of power for whoever controls the isles.

Ecosystem

The island's ecosystem has largely been eradicated, replaced with subsistence crops and the occasional forest designed to mimic the Everlasting Jungle below, for the monarchy's pleasure. Any wildlife that existed before the War for the Seven Isles of Karanor has certainly been eradicated since.

Natural Resources

The isles are still extremely plentiful in terms of ores and minerals. They also act as a focal point for fire magic, thanks to the volcano. Lastly, their position over the Everlasting Jungle makes whoever controls them able to project power, especially if they have access to air power and the two cities that connect to the isles.

History

The history of the floating isles is inseparable form the history of Karanor, and in the recent centuries, the War for the Seven Isles of Karanor.
