Children
Recently, a new plant god has come to dominate all others in our country, even becoming an assistant to our Lord the Water God Lydien. Many underestimate this young and unusual god, forgetting that nothing good can be gained from triffling with any god at all.

Birth

Agriculture was invented by our Lord and helped our city-state and then our empire gain their prominence. Even today when industry has become so important, agriculture stays primordial—to ensure everyone survives, of course, but also as a bargaining chip to negotiate with other countries that don't have gods as powerful and generous as ours. While our Lord has always been perfectly fine doing that on His own, the plant god has appeared to assist Him recently—which, in divine terms, means less than a millennia ago.   Gods of plants are particular among all gods for being very tied to a specific flora. If their plant ever becomes important to mortals, our prayers can make the god gain power, and they then can start expending their domain. Like many others, our current plant god started with very little power, which forced them into an almost vegetative state for a long time, all because they were tied to a minor desert plant.   Thnkfully for them, one day our Lord took interest in the plant and its properties and decided to cultivate it so that He could use it in crafting magical artefacts. Thanks to the sudden attention of mortals, the plant god suddenly awakened. According to our Lord's priests, He was initially annoyed by this development, but for reasons of His own—undoubtedly nefarious ones—he still ended up deciding to nurture their potential. And He did that so well that this plant god soon gained dominion over all plants grown in our desert and fertile plains, crushing all other plant gods into oblivion.

Domain

While the plant god does assist our Lord in growing crops, they have to be careful not to invade His domain and offend Him. In addition, the main recipient to our prayers and gratitude will always be the water and irrigation systems and their God. In order to find their own niche and earn their own share of mortals' devotion, the plant god focuses on playing with the plants under their domain, breeding them to give them more interesting properties or to even create new species. In practice, this apparently means making them poisonous and carnivorous.   Unsurprisingly, this rarely ends well for anyone involved...

Opinion from the Archives

Despite this regrettable tendency and the resulting numerous deaths of mortals, the plant god is a popular secondary god to worship alongside the main gods of our country. Indeed, the god's youth makes them exuberant and curious, thus predisposing them to look more favourably over mortals' requests for assistance. This leads many farmers to attempt to gain crops that will be more productive and resistant than their neighbours'—or, at default, that will kill their neighbours'—crafters and master ritualists to gain new original material unseen by anyone else —thus guaranteeing their career—or outright assassins to gain new untraceable and unstoppable poisons.   However, the plant god remains a god, and anyone trusts them at their own risk and should not be surprised if their acquaintances with the god will only leads them to end their life prematurely by becoming fertiliser.

Cool plants would be great! I'm glad you like the character, they're probably going to be in the novel too, since they ended up being important for the water god XD I'll need a name for them but using "Mochi" does break my naming conventions, so I'll have to find something close enough that fits :D

Thanks! All those gods are very selfish in the end, even those who might appear more benevolent...
