Ghostwood

Thick forests surrounding Koudasos, they are difficult to navigate and easy to get lost in. Rumors say the forests are haunted and contain many monstrous creatures.   Legends tell of strange hybrid beasts: large winged and horned jackrabbits with crimson eyes and large fangs, great bulky owls with forelegs and claws, squirrels with claws and the bills of ducks, enormous horned foxes and flying weasels. According to some, deep in the forest lives an evil sorcerer who created these creatures in his experiments. He captures any who wander too deep into the forest, and who knows what terrible creations he makes with his human captives.   Others suspect a great evil dwelling in the forest, but it doesn't seem as human or mundane as a sorcerer. Evil spirits lure people into the forest and trap them there, their ghosts ever wandering and wailing trying to find their way out.

Fauna & Flora

The forest is known to contain bears and wolves, along with deer, rabbits, squirrels and other small game. Numerous owls dwell in the woods, and their ghostly cries can be heard in the woods at night.   Thick mosses and lichens cover the ground between the tall fir trees. Among fallen logs, a wide variety of mushrooms and other fungi grow. Shallow bogs scattered throughout the forest are home to prized cloudberries.   In more protected areas of the forest, wild rose, juniper, dill, mustard, wild garlic and horseradish can be found. Flowers are rare, but seem to cluster around specific areas.

Natural Resources

The old trees in this forest grow tall and straight, which make excellent timber for construction. Abundant wild game provides a steady food source for the town of Koudasos, and foragers collect the wild herbs, roots and berries.
