After exposure to the purple material, any person can either obtain a deadly disease or obtain a power, if they do obtain a power, they are then classified as a "Hairiyu"
Causes
If they do not obtain any kind of disease from the purple material, they obtain a power that varies on each person and that normally manifests a day or a week after the exposure.
Symptoms
The powers vary depending on each person, it can be any kind of ability from turning their body into any element at will, to being speedsters, to being elastic, projecting energy, telekinesis, pyrokinesis, telepathy, mind control or other specific abilities such as the power to move between and manipulate shadows or transform matter at will or even creating vegetable life out of nowhere, it has not been determined what causes a certain power to emerge or why or how the same power can appear in more than one person, or even how many different powers can exist.
This condition lasts for life.
Treatment
The only solution to cope up with it is to know, and be able to control the power at will.
Prevention
A vaccine to prevent any condition caused by the purple material was discovered to have been created back in the 1500´s and even after its world wide spread, some people where known to be immune to the vaccine, any further attempt to eradicate this condition failed and no definitive cure has been created to the date.
Epidemiology
It spreads along whoever has purple material in their possession, a prolonged exposure to it or inhaling the dust produced by it triggers its effects on people, it does not spread from one person to another and an outbreak will not be possible, as most of the population are already vaccined from any effect it may produce.
History
Cultural Reception
It depends on each person, some Hairiyu use their powers to commit crimes and others to confront them, some use them to harm and others to protect, some of them are considered heroes and others as evil villains.
Generally speaking, everyone fears them, there is no way to identify them in public unless their power involves some kind of mutation and they could appear and do whatever they want at any time, they are for the most part responsible of a collective fear and sense of insecurity among society, some groups are determined to hunt them down, others want to enlist their abilities in both organised crime or armed forces, some of them live hidden from society and some others hide with, and assists sorcerers.
