Dragons

Draco Ingens

Dragons are the oldest race on Deruña, possibly even including the gods. When the Era of the gods begun, Dragons' society -or at least what passes for it to them- was millennia old already. They are massive, powerful, nearly unkillable, and one of the few truly immortal races. Their spirits hold more magical energy than any other race in existence, including the gods, but they are unable to control magic in order to shape it into spells. Rather, magical things simply tend to happen or manifest around them. Most Dragons lead solitary lives in the forests, mountains, or wilderness, far away from Divided society. However, some prefer to live closer to society. None are allowed to live within cities, however, for safety reasons.

Physical Attributes and Appearance

Dragons are massive, four legged, winged creatures. They are roughly 300 to 500 feet in total length, several stories tall, and have wingspans (if they have wings) of 150 to 200 feet. Their bodies are covered by extremely hard scales, and their powerful muscles allow them to move with speed that defies their incredible size. Most dragons are capable of breathing fire, though other elements or none at all are generated by some dragons.  Their scales, eyes, and wings tend to be varying shades of the same color, which seems to have some correlation with their breath powers, and whether or not they are capable of flight.

Magical Attributes and Skill

Dragons' Spiritual reserves and regeneration are both beyond compare, surpassing even the gods. However, they lack any actual ability to control this magic, save for their breath, which is a spray of whatever element they are aligned with. Additionally, unusual magical things tend to simply happen near them, but don't tend to affect them much due to their extreme resistance to magic.

Senses and Perception

Dragons have nearly perfect vision even from miles in the sky, and their sense of smell is almost as impressive. They are inherently able to see invisible magical forces, but have no real use of this sense given that they cannot directly interact with it.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragons lay eggs, rather than giving live birth, and do so only exceedingly rarely. Not only do Dragons interact rarely, giving them few occasions to breed, but raising a young Dragon is a commitment of several millennia, which most Dragons don't tend to approve of spending so much time on.  Dragons inherit the traits of both parents in a more literal way than any other species. The colors and traits are more directly mixed from the two parents, almost like they had been literally blended together like paint.

Growth and Lifespan

Though Dragons take centuries to fully mature, they are perfectly capable of fending for themselves after only a few decades. The rate at which Dragons' minds develop is utterly unknown to anyone but those few Dragons that have raised young.  Dragons are truly immortal, unable to die of old age by any means.

Naming Traditions

Dragon names are essentially a collection of titles and accolades the Dragon has collected over their life, spoken in their native tongue.  Examples: AlErethAngkarThal AerosLhamMere. Translated as, Swift Ally Born of the Fire of Endless Savagery, or much more commonly simply shortened to an easy nickname, such as Erith or Lham.

Culture and Customs

Dragons follow their instincts, for the most part. They tend to live in caves, deep forests, on mountains, or in underground burrows. They typically rest for much of the time, but they also spend much of their time appeasing an instinctive desire to hoard. Almost universally, they have a need to gather large quantities of some sort of object, whether it be gold and riches, rocks, sculptures, or nearly anything that strikes their fancy.

Dietary Needs

Dragons need to eat an absolutely massive quantity of food, typically raw meat that they hunt themselves. However, when they are resting they are able to go for an extended period of time without needing to eat.
Etiquette Tips
Look, interact with unfamiliar Dragons as little as physically possible. Their personalities vary so wildly that what one might consider a necessity could also make another furious.

General Opinion
Few people meet any dragons to form an opinion of them personally, but most either fear or else practically revere them, due to their incredible power and long lifespans. They are often thought of as wise and spiritual, but sometimes capricious and spiteful.
Fun Dragon Fact!
One Dragon resides on the top floor of each of the Academic Towers! They serve both as a guardian in case of any extraordinary threat, and as something of an odd magical power source.
