Geography

Spanning many miles, the Realm of the Familiar is incredibly geographically diverse, with biomes to suit the unique living requirements of its many visitors. The topography is relatively flat, allowing for one to be able to look across the expanse of the Realm and see flowery meadows, tangled jungles, dry and rocky crags, and frozen mountain peaks all in the same field of view. The land is ringed in a mountain range known as The Circlet, which creates a clear boundary to the pocket dimension. Periodically, there are gaps between the mountains, filled with trees, which serve as doorways for humanoids to be guided into the Realm.

Ecosystem

Due to the high concentration of magical energy in the Realm, common laws of nature have been observed to be manipulated or skewed. The only common understanding of the realm's ecosystem is that it is perfectly suited for it's intended inhabitants, familiars. Water, food and shelter are all plentiful and no necessity is not within a reasonable travelling distance for any creature. To humanoids who have visited, it seems almost as though the terrain shifts to suit whoever is in the dimension at the time, but this is not done is such a way that is perceivable.

Localized Phenomena

The ecosystem of the Realm of the Familiar does not shift with time but rather with geographic location. Walking from one biome to the next may result in a great shift in temperature and climate, according to the needs of the fauna within that area. Each ecosystem is protected from overlap of it's neighboring biomes via an invisible arcane barrier.

Fauna & Flora

The primary fauna of the Realm of the Familiar are the familiars themselves who, due to the astronomically high saturation of magical energy in the dimension, take on extra traits while in the Realm. Almost as though the material plane does not allow the familiars to operate at their full potential, in the Realm, Tressym have extra sets of wings and tails, toads are magnified in size 10 times, owls spend their time meditating and researching histories and otters have built beautiful coral cityscapes. The Eritee, the only known native species of the Reealm, serve as guides for visitors, watchmen over the area to ensure peace and prosperity within and protectors of the land.

History

The exact circumstances surrounding the creation of the Realm of the Familiar are shrouded in mystery and, understandably, undocumented. When humanoids have questioned the familiars that reside in the Realm about the history of the dimension, the responses are inconsistent. However, there is a common handful of theories regarding the creation. One theory was that a powerful Arch mage, who very much loved his familiar, found the fact that familiars tend to spend much of their "off time" in a lonely pocket dimension quite depressing and wanted to create a place they could go to socialize, explore and relax.

Tourism

Humanoids non-native to the Realm can be allowed to enter but must always be under the supervision and escort of an Eritee, the guides of the plane. Tourism is usually limited to high-leveled magic users with a familiar who is aware of the Realm and able to speak on their partner's behalf to allow for travel.
