The Harmonic Jackal Carved Instruments
A Gem in the Slums of Highport
Purpose / Function
Design
The main room is a 20'x20' square. A 10'x10' loft sits 8' above the floor at the rear of the building and is curtained off from the rest of the shop. The floor is made of stained pine and the pine walls are decorated with intricate carvings.
Entries
Only one entry to and from the building exists - the front door. The small windows are too tiny for even a gnome to comfortably crawl through.
Sensory & Appearance
The Harmonic Jackal is a cozy and somewhat bare little store. The first thing that hits most people upon entering is the smell, a sweet and spicy mingling of wood shavings, perfume and fresh flowers. Though the windows are small, they are positioned to provide the optimum amount of light for the building, and so it remains quite well lit. It lacks any real source of heating and so can get quite cold in the winter months and uncomfortably warm in the summer months. Often, the sounds of either the whittling of wood or a lone flute can be heard coming from the building.
Denizens
Tox spends most of her time within these four walls, waiting for customers and making her instruments. She leaves every day to go and get fresh flowers that grow along the outside of the wall of the Southern Ward. Tox is meticulous about keeping the building clean to avoid the all to common infestations of rats and other vermin commonly found in buildings on the Platforms.
Contents & Furnishings
The room is quite bare. A small table on which sits a set of whittling tools; a small set of scales; a tiny chest; and, usually, an instrument of some sort in the process of being carved sits alongside a tall stool. The loft contains a small cot and washbasin behind the curtain.
Valuables
The real treasures of The Harmonic Jackal are the beautifully carved instruments handcrafted by Tox. What little money she makes from them is kept in the tiny chest which she hides away at the end of the day. The walls themselves are works of art that Tox has carved little by little over many years.
Architecture
A simple wood hut consisting of a single room with an open loft, it is unusually well constructed for the Platforms.
