Employment

Rosalind spent her early days of employment as a member of The Watchful Reapers where she trained and developed her fighting skills.  In her early twenties she was hired as a bodyguard to the half-orc daughter of a well-to-do family in the Southern Ward. The rambunctious teenager, Rochelle Wilde, was a difficult charge to guard, given to leaving the city unexpectedly to explore the wilds south of the city.  Her human father needed a strong hand to try and control the girl and Rosalind answered the call with an eye to entering the higher class of living offered in the Southern Ward.  The first year of service to the Wilde family was not particularly notable, but in the second year, Rochelle slipped away from the city and Rosalind had to lead a four month search party in the wilds of Deadmouth Island to track down the girl.  Despite finding her charge, Marcus Wilde, the girl's father, then dismissed Rosalind for having lost track of her in the first place, and Rosalind returned to duty with The Watchful Reapers.   She has remained with them since for a period of sixteen years, working her way up to leadership of the organization.  Over that time, she has tried to rework them into a solid military style unit, although limited resources has meant that this has been largely successful only on the northern frontier at the watchtowers.  Within Highport, the attitude of the guards has changed a little, but their ability to do much beyond control the gates into the Thornwood Gate area of town.  Nonetheless, Rosalind continues to attempt to reshape the organization into a better city guard and personally takes charge of investigating serious crimes within the city when she is not commanding the watchtowers.

Accomplishments & Achievements

When Rosalind first joined the The Watchful Reapers they were a rather disparate group, held together more by the tradition and the sheer length of their existence than by any actual use.  She takes great pride in having reworked the organization from top to bottom and though she recognizes that their is a lot of work to do to form them into what she wants them to be, she recognizes that her accomplishments to date have been quite impressive.

Failures & Embarrassments

Losing Rochelle for an extended period shook Rosalind's confidence for a long time despite the successful outcome of returning the half-orc teen to her family.  Her dismissal from protecting Rochelle was a deep blow to her.  In the immediate aftermath, while in a dark place, Rosalind helped in the planning of a theft, offering her knowledge of the Southern Ward from her time with the Wildes.  The heist was a disaster and the thieves were caught, but though they implicated Rosalind, she was never charged with a crime.  Nonetheless, she carries deep shame over the incident.  Though that has receded over time, it became a driving force in the formation of her character and her strong sense of ethics.

Intellectual Characteristics

Rosalind is inquisitive and curious.  Once she latches onto a subject or an idea, she is driven to find out as much as she can about it.

Morality & Philosophy

She lives her life by a strict code of ethics, valuing fairness and respecting authority. Her intentions are to work for the good of everyone even if that occasionally means working to the detriment of an individual.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Rosalind desires to turn The Watchful Reapers into an orderly and effective city watch.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Rosalind fights cautiously at first, sussing out an opponent's weaknesses before striking with devastating effectiveness.  She is skilled in survival both in the city and the wilderness.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Her one failed and shameful foray into crime earned her an enemy in a sailor who was involved in the plot. A former friend, his name is Trym Rylan.  After receiving a whipping for his role in the planned theft while Rosalind walked free, Trym depply resents her and though he spends most of his time at sea, his returns to Highport are often marked by some kind of confrontation between Rosalind and himself.   A troublemaking farmer from just outside of Highport also holds a grudge against Rosalind, who injured her badly while breaking up a drunken fight.  This wouldn't ordinarily be a problem for a skilled fighter such as Rosalind, but the farmer, Jocelyn Blyth, also has some minor magical skills which she uses to irritate Rosalind whenever possible upon her visits into town.  Though Rosalind did inflict the injury upon Jocelyn, it was in self-defense against Jocelyn's drunken actions, and she was held blameless in the action by everyone who witnessed it.

Family Ties

Rosalind's parents are both alive.  She was raised largely by her father, Charles Dawkins, a merchant trading largely in fabrics as her mother spent the majority of her time out exploring the island.  Her mother, Adelaide, has now retired from a successful career of adventuring and exploration, but her parents have separated and Adelaide has little contact with the children who she essentially abandoned..   She has three siblings, all older.  Her eldest brother, Henry, is a farmer outside of town.  Godfrey, the next of her siblings is a cleric of Moaryli and heavily involved in the religious politics of Highport. The youngest of her brothers, just a year older than Rosalind, is called Randal and he effectively now runs their father's business as Charles is getting too old to manage it.

Religious Views

She pays tribute to the Deadmouth Pantheon of Gods but has no particular allegiance to one or another, despite her brother's attempt to pull her into the faith of Moaryli.

Social Aptitude

Easy-going, but scrupulous, she is not a charismatic leader, but inspires loyalty through her bravery and efficiency.

Mannerisms

Rosalind gives an impression to those that don't know her of a lacksadaisical attitude that borders on sloth, but it comes from the effortlessness with which she performs her tasks.  Rarely stressed, calm under pressure and clear thinking, she remains unruffled in the direst of circumstances.  She speaks softly and with an authority that brings silence to the room so that people will listen.  When she addresses a person one on one it has the effect of making them feel they are the most important person to her in the world at that moment.

Hobbies & Pets

Although leading The Watch leaves her with little time, her main hobby is music and she is an above average harpsichord player.

Speech

Soft spoken with an authoritative tone, she is businesslike and efficient in her speech.

Wealth & Financial state

Rosalind did not have a wealthy upbringing by the standards of the Southern Ward, but for the Gloomwharf, where her father was based it was comfortable enough if not lavish.  As Captain of the The Watchful Reapers, she now lives a more comfortable lifestyle within her quarters at headquarters.  Owning luxuries, such as a harpsichord and her own weapons and armor and fed and housed by the the Watch is a comfortable live and enviable by the standards of most of Highport.
