Structure
Organized in loose military style with the Captain of the Guard leading four Lieutenants, the Lieutenants each overseeing four Corporals, and each Corporal being in charge of four Privates, the Watchful Reapers number only 85 men and women.
Public Agenda
Unlike what many might expect of a city watch, the Watchful Reapers are only nominally interested in keeping the piece and preventing crime in Highport. They have funding and a mandate from some of the richer individuals and merchants in the city to ensure that the business of Gloomwharf and Thornwall Gate (particularly the latter) operates largely unimpeded within the loose laws of the city, but they really serve two primary functions. One is to man the watchtowers north of town, giving advance warning of any approaching force and preventing small bands of creatures from causing trouble anywhere near the city. The second is to control access to the Thornwall Gate area of town and limit what weaponry can be allowed in to the Gate and for what purpose. Though they will take a limited interest in major events around the city as pertaining to blatant acts of disruption to the business of the town (mostly those acts that adversely affect their patrons), their use to the general populace of Highport is sporadic at best, and they do not make much effort to pretend otherwise.
Assets
The Watch are headquartered and barracked at the southern end of Thornwall Gate in a large stone complex that also makes up a portion of the walls near the eastern gate to Gloomwharf. Entrances from the complex lead into both Gloomwharf and Thornwall Gate.
History
Some form of the Watchful Reapers has existed since the early days of Highport, although that form has largely depended on the benefactors funding the Watch and their agendas. Nonetheless, the Watch has endured for around three centuries in one form or another and has been thirty years at its current location in Thornwall Gate.
