House of the Morninglord

Located in the Eastern Commons of Bryn Shander, this old building serves as a temple to the Sun God Amaunator. Its windows are surprisingly large and done in a stained glass style, clearly uncommon in the area - the larger the windows are, the more heat leaves the building. The stylistic choice is enhanced by the fact that a spell of some sort seems to keep the windows glowing with sunlight from inside.     Each of the decorative stained glass windows depict three aspects of the Amaunator - an old wise man, a beautiful woman in her mid years, and a handsome young man with hair of gold. Each of the windows depicting the young man have been covered up.  The clergy of the Morninglord believe that Lathander the Dawnbringer is considered a heretical usurper to the throne of the original God of the Sun, Amaunator, and ought not be worshipped even as an aspect of the god. Factions between worshippers of the Sun Lords are divided on whether Amaunator and Lathander are separate divine entities or merely aspects of the same god. The Amaunator's clergy in Bryn Shander are strongly of the opinion that Lathander is a pretender undeserving of worship as an equal to Amaunator.    Amaunator is seen as a god of Law and Order, along with Sun and Light.

Tenets of the Eternal Sun

Light Banishes Darkness. Darkness conceals all manner of evils. In light, all is revealed.   Order Abates Chaos. Chaos is unstable and inconsistent. Societies flourish under order and structure.   Law is Right. Law is fair, just, and unbiased. All peoples flourish under the rule of law.   Sun Promotes Strength. As the natural world flourishes under the light of the sun, so do civilized peoples. The brutal harshness of the sun serves to make us resilient and promotes endurance.

Tenets practiced in the Temple

Law Above All. There is one true law of the world: those with power rule over those without. Only by claiming power for yourself can you achieve victory.   Rebuke the Undeserving. Those who are weak have a place in this world, and that place is at your feet. Those who do not know their place may turn against you through subterfuge and deception. Never tolerate such machinations, for they contravene the right of those with power to rule.   Might Makes Right. The destiny of true strength bends towards crowns and scepters, but never forget that mere strength of arm does not true strength make.   One Will, Many Hands. A king who rules dust is no king at all. Find capable vassals such that your reach can extend beyond your own hand.

Purpose / Function

The House of the Morninglord is inherently designed as a place of worship for the Sun Gods - any god associated with the celestial object and bringing light to darkness. However, the past few decades the clergy has taken a stricter rule to allow only worship of Amaunator in the temple grounds, and no other sun deities, such as Lathander or any gods associated with Dusk for example.

Denizens

The Chapel houses several clergy members who live in the temple.
  • Righteous Potentate Angrid, human cleric
  • Righteous Potentate Mishann, human cleric
  • Righteous Potentate Urvald, elven paladin
Several clergymen also work at the temple, most serving as guards and clerics.
  • Willem Fontaine, human cleric
  • Giada Fontaine, half-elven cleric
  • Seetri Sammal, human guard
  • Valdemar Sevens, human guard

Hazards & Traps

The basement level of the temple seems to contain several pressure plates linked to intricate arrow traps in the walls, as well as magical glyph traps.  Salvia Dantalion seems to think the clergy there are trying to protect something called The Summer Star

Architecture

The building has high ceilings and several stained glass windows that depict the three aspects of the Sun - Lathander, Amaunator, and A'tar, another aspect of Amaunator.  The main chapel contains a large room for worship and ceremonies, and the enchanted windows glow with light from within, bathing the building in artificial sunlight both inside and outside.    Under the chapel runs a series of tunnels that connect to a large basement area as well as smugglers' tunnels running from Bryn Shander to the wilderness outside of the walls of the city.
