Tuner Species in Dawn of Others | World Anvil

Tuner

They are considered the most frightening and powerful group of Others. Partly because they can blend in with Humans if they choose to do so and partly because their abilities are beyond anything science can explain.   While there are humans that can use Dark, there are those humans who consider anyone who weild the Dark to be an Other, specifically a Tuner. This is not accurate, but is often how things are socially viewed. Tuners are individuals that have a natural capacity for using the River. This means that they do not need to research or use tools to facilitate their River. For the Tuner, using the River is the same as breathing.
Dark is a natural capability. They are not a spellcaster and require neither a book nor a wand. They are naturally gifted with the capacity to shape the world around them. This is entirely a mental ability and requires no physical expression of any kind to manifest. And if they work at it, such a capability will only become stronger. But they risk loosing themselves in the process.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They look like Humans. The only difference is that they can call upon the Dark and wield the River. This allows them to manipulate reality in ways that science cannot explain.

Biological Traits

For game purposes, this sub race will follow all of the rules in the Ultramodern 5 Redux source book for the Tuner race.

Behaviour

They tend to be paranoid and secretive people. Their ability to use Dark often causes them trouble that they don't want. Because of this, they have learned to hide what they are and are slow to trust others with this information.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

They are often killed for being what they are due to fear and distrust. They are often hunted and their body parts are harvested to create Dark items, allowing those who are not Tuners to manipulate the River more easily.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

They rarely trust Humans who have proven to be violent and full of bigotry. They avoid them whenever possible and blend in with them when they must.
