Nico Destinn

Nico Destinn was once the head of The Bannerstriders and Regent of Shathen in the years surrounding the Contagion War. He led his forces in a massive campaign into Drostenian territory and led the Siege of Isloaham, with himself sustaining serious injuries while fending off various foes, which in turn allowed The Ragtags to defeat Emperor Isaac Forthwind. He survived his injuries and took up his post as King Regent of Shathen, until Katrina DeMarco was of age to take the throne. Unfortunately, their relationship deteriorated and eventually, Nico was exiled from Shathen, despite his attempts to help. He wandered the lands in his exile, and was never heard from again. However, it has recently been uncovered that upon his death in the Timber Swamps, Nico was transformed into the image of the long-standing legend The Bone Sire.

The Bannerstriders

For a number of years prior to the Contagion War, Nico had been head of the Bannerstriders, the monarch's personal guard and armed forces throughout Shathen. He joined up when he was much younger and earned his way through the ranks, eventually impressing Franco DeMarco, the king of Shathen at the time. They ultimately grew a deep and personal bond between them, and they both respected each other greatly. Franco has said Nico had saved his life on multiple occassions. Although he often neglected to share details, it was clear that Nico was a confident and capable commander, and was the only real choice when it came time to choose a new Commander of the forces. It was during his time as the Bannerstrider Commander that he met The Ragtags, after he cast a resurrection spell to save Rakan Vastaya after his demise at the hands of the Hydra.

King Regent

Despite Nico's abilities and attention to detail, Franco was unfortunately murdered by an assassin, Skarrl. This occured at a point of stalemate during the Contagion War, and while at first they believed it to be a plot by Isaac Forthwind to reignite the war, it later turned out that Skarrl acted of his own accord. After Franco's death, and the end of the Contagion War, Nico left Drosten to figure out its own fate, and chose not to interfere in their politics. He returned to Shathen and ruled as King Regent for a number of years, until Katrina, Franco's daughter, was old enough to take the throne. Despite his tutelage and guidance, Katrina was a weak ruler and often made poor decisions, which ultimately made Shathen weaker, and allowed barons and warlords to sieze portions of Shathenian land. This led to a falling out, and Katrina exiled Nico from Shathenian land. It appears that during the years of his exile, Nico attempted to make ammends with Katrina, but was ultimately turned away.

Death

After wandering for several years during his exile, Nico eventually found himself in the Timber Swamps. Beaten, bloodied, and bruised, he unfortunately succumbed to exhaustion and passed away on the 29th of Early Winter, 1451AC. An unknown individual erected a gravestone in the swamp, bearing the inscription:
"Here lie the remains of an unknown Bannerstrider. They died in a strange land, far away from home, but a hero nonetheless."
It appears that after an unkown amount of time, Nico was reborn as The Bone Sire; an incarnation of the long-standing Drostenian folklore legend. It was only recently, in the Late Summer of 1462AC that he revealed his previous life to The Fated Four.
