The Inner Planes
Inner Planes is the collective term for a subset of the known planes of existence in the Great Wheel cosmology model and the World Tree cosmology model. The term refers to the placement of the planes at the center of the concentric spheres that made up the Great Wheel model. The Inner Planes are also called the elemental planes because each one is primarily made up of one type of matter. There are six major and twelve minor elemental planes and they can be reached from the Prime Material Plane by traveling through the Ethereal plane. The six major Inner planes are:
Elemental Plane of Air
Elemental Plane of Fire
Elemental Plane of Earth
Elemental Plane of Water
Positive Energy Plane
Negative Energy Plane
The minor of the Inner Planes can be divided into three groups of four:
The Paraelemental Planes (or paraplanes) of Smoke, Magma, Ooze and Ice, each of them between two of the major Elemental Planes.
The positive Quasielemental Planes (quasiplanes) of Lightning, Radiance, Mineral and Steam, each between one of the major Elemental Planes and the Positive Energy Plane.
The negative Quasielemental Planes (quasiplanes) of Vacuum, Ash, Dust and Salt, each between one of the major Elemental Planes and the Negative Energy Plane.
