Ash Character in Darker Planes | World Anvil

Ash

Grand Tactitian and Head Archeologist of the Synod Kinvil Evernight (a.k.a. Ash or Ashwind Duchnan)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

she appears as the approximation of a healthy antropomorphic young woman who needs little effort to disguise as humanoid if wanted, and steps light as a feather, swift and deliberate.

Body Features

Her skin is a light ashen color, akin to a bright grey tone, and unless she suppresses it, flakes of ash float around her at all times.

Facial Features

Her face looks delicate, and often a bit dirty, unless she takes great care to cover up smudges of ash. Her eyes have the color of glowing coals, a strangely reassuring, glimmering red, but are usually rimmed-looking, making her seem strangely tired and worn. A Trait that actually spurs her followers to work harder, as they tend to think she is overworking herself for the cause.

Identifying Characteristics

Looking like a young lady that has crawled through the ashes of a great hearth, Ash is easy to identify, when she is not attempting to conceal her identity. Additionally she often floats above the ground like a leaf carried by the wind.

Physical quirks

She glides effortlessly through the air, unless strong winds try to blow her off course. Her hair often has some wild strands flowing about, enancing the impression that she is dirty, and she sometimes subconsciously tucks them back in with minor success. She becomes very still and intense, when she observes something that piques her curiousity.

Special abilities

Other than her ability to levitate and float about, her touch can be calcifying, if she desires, turning skin to bone. She has superior intellect that may even be considered extreme, and few would guess that she is less than 10 years old, due to her vast knowledge and clever demeanor. Within her lingers great divine power, bestowed by her father, enabling her to summon strange magic, all themed around ash, fire, and ice, and neither fire and ice can harm her in the slightest.

Apparel & Accessories

When she thinks she has her privacy, she usually does not wear any clothing, but otherwise she prefers flowing robes, or wide monk's outfits with shadowy cloaks and gloves to keep her from soiling what she touches with ash. She has many powerful magical outfits and items at her disposal, some of which she wears, if the occasion warrents it.

Mental characteristics

Sexuality

Ash is an aberration, and has an unusual internal organ structure. Nontheless she appears to be and acts female to the outside observer.

Education

She has spent long hours with the vast collection of tomes Schabraxas Evernight has ammassed for her on Hârbingal, as well as in the Library of Gehnatan, the Library of Githranza. She has also taken courses at the Third Tolarian Academy and the University of Eriand.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Through superior bureaucracy and allocation of resources, as well as her tendency to acknowledge and support the desires of the ones that serve her, she has managed to organize a total of 23 Githzerai tribes into a great army, gaining the reverance of all beneath her.

Failures & Embarrassments

Her mother's brash nature, and tendency to make hasty, emotional decisions has often put the troups that serve her in danger, a fact that not only emberasses Ash, but one she also feels responsible for.

Intellectual Characteristics

All her mental faculties seem superior to most creatures one might encounter, even dragons and ancient arch wizards. Spacial, analytical, logical, tactical and creative thinking are all well developed in her mind, honed by long days and nights of reading and attending lectures at the most renowned universities throughout the the Planescape.

Morality & Philosophy

Ash seems to have the unusual philosophy that all desires are valuable, and when dealing with others, fulfilling their real desire is the most desirable thing to do. Perhaps she simply aims to please, or perhaps, she seeks to bind others to her.

Taboos

While she often makes it seem as though her stance on her mother is that if she gets herself killed, that is what she will have brought upon herself, but in truth, she would move the inner and outer planes to keep Tasmia save.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

She desires the safety she was granted from the grasping hands of the gods for all free people of The Planescape.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Able to compensate for most of her shortcomings with sheer intellect, it is still stressful for her to deal with situations where experience is key due to her young age.

Likes & Dislikes

She loves riddles and mysteries, though few are complex enough to keep her attention for long. She dislikes intrigue.

Vices & Personality flaws

Her curiosity sometimes makes her forget her better judgement.

Personality Quirks

When she feels the need to become more 'grounded' mentally, she also stops floating and walks normally.

Hygiene

Though she exudes the pleasant smell of a warm hearthfire, it is nearly impossible for her to stay clean for long, as her hair and hands seem to produce sut and ash that quickly give her a dirty look. For the most part this does compliment her ashen appearance, but of course it is not ideal for political settings and requires her special attention in such.

Social

Religious Views

She has a deep-seated dislike for all gods that use mortals as tools and batteries, a belief she shares with her father, though if for the same reasons remains unclear.

How old is she?

I believe she was somewhere around 3-4 years old during the campaign. It only took her a couple of months to grow up due to her vast intellect.

How does that work? She looks older than 3 or 4 she looks more like 14-15.

She's not humanoid, she's an Outsider/Aberration. I think her mother, Tasmia, just pushed out a lump of coal, and Ash expanded from that. She's got a certain amount of control over her appearance and could make herself look older or younger within a span of a couple of days. This is a good age for negotiating and figure heading. Old enough not to be dismissed, young enough to seem frighteningly cunning for her age.

Then please write it

I did. In that comment.   My campaign has been on hiatus for about a year now, and I was starting to transcribe its details for the benefit of my players, keeping it public only because there was no need to privatize it so far. I'll consider adding some information in the future, but honestly, not getting to play a campaign I enjoy makes writing about it leave a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, plus I am very busy writing for my main world of Aqualon.
