Earth

Earth. An insignificant little blue-green planet. Famously described as "mostly harmless."   Humans, Earth's only sentient species by universal standards, would like to object to that descriptor. They are very harmful when they want to be. Case in point: five out of six Paladins of Voltron are human. (or, at least partially human. There is some debate in various circles about whether the Red Paladin should count under that "mostly harmless.") Earth is also very, very, significant. Paladin Krolia, Kisekmet Marmorait crash-landed on the planet with the Blue Lion of Voltron when humans were still a young species, barely into the stage where grunts meant something. Most, if not all, events on a universal scale have been affected by that one action.   In the present day, Earth is ruled by the Sol Federation, which was put into place after the end of World War Three to prevent anything like that ever happening again. Whether it's worked is yet to be seen.

Geography

72% of Earth's surface is covered in water. The land is split up into seven-ish continents: North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica. With the rising sea levels due to climate change, the former coastlines of each of these, especially Europe and east Asia, are completely gone. Entire islands are under the sea again, peninsulas have vanished. The rising temperature and disappearing forests have practically expanded the deserts. The Antarctic ice shelves have split and melted. Pollution in the atmosphere has created beautiful sunsets, at the cost of some of the most dense cities becoming unlivable.   A series of tunnels, created during World War Three, span the length of many of the continents. The former United States and its allies in the Americas created these to hide from the global positioning system and ICBM strikes, relying on old-fashioned maps and their own wits. The former Russian Federation and its allies created a similar set once they figured out what the US was doing.   After the creation of the Sol Federation, all borders between countries were dropped. People can come and go as they please, but to get essentials such as food and clean water, they need to check in to a region's distribution center. The Sol Federation also built a large number of space elevators, centered around the equator on various continents, for easy access to and from space. These are essential to the workings of the food and water distribution centers.

Fauna & Flora

Earth's former abundance of flora and fauna has slowly been lost to climate change. Hardier animals have survived and adapted, but already at-risk and more specialized animals have gone extinct. Humans, however, have just kept going.

Natural Resources

Many of Earth's natural resources have been strip-mined. Metals are gone, water is contaminated, forests are heavily protected due to rampant deforestation. Earth can no longer rely on itself for anything, not even food. This has necessitated the quest for resources somewhere else, and thus the Sol Federation Galaxy Garrison was born.

Maps

The Sol Federation Galaxy Garrison (SFGG) is the primary military and space-travel force in the Sol System. As a result, they have bases all over Planet Earth. They also are closely linked to SFSTD (usually pronounced "safest"), the Sol Federation Space Travel Department, which controls all the space elevators and keeps the lanes between the Dyson Rings, Mars, Luna, and Earth clear and tracked. Every SFSTD pilot is military-trained. This map shows all SFGG outpost and SFSTD operated space-elevator on Earth.
