Captain Kate Brookes
After the fall of the Depot and the death of General Garrett, the PDF was left in a state of chaos. Attacks continued but the disorganized, scattered PDF struggled to survive, let alone launch a defensive.
Officers tried time and time again to regather forces and establish a new front, but until then the PDF's officer training was more concerned with patrols and parades than actual military tactics.
Captain Kate Brookes was initially tasked with ferrying civilians back to the hive city, allowing her to avoid the first few conflicts. After her recovery operation was struck by an ork warband and her commanding officer was slain, Brookes took direct command over the recovery effort, ordering a retreat back to Olicana for all surviving soldiers and civilians.
Though her actions undeniably saved the lives of many, the retreat had sparked an uproar. Dozens of soldiers ignored these orders in favour of remaining on the front lines and fighting back the ork threat, further splitting the PDF forces. More still took this retreat further, finding any way they could to flee the planet entirely,
Brookes was not the only commanding officer to aid in the battle, far from it, but over the years she remained a leader and tactician. Win or loss, no matter the battle, Brookes took command of the situation and pushed her people to succeed. That is why, even eighty years later, she was seen as the leader of the PDF by everyone around her

New Command
With the completion of the retreat, those who remained looked to Brookes for their next move. Seemingly the only officer amongst them that had no desire to either flee or smash themselves against the enemy, Brookes worked with those who were left to stoke the fires of the PDF and return them to a true fighting force. Olicana Primus was turned into a fortress, a bulwark against the ork threat. Any capable hand, young and old, were trained to fight, and efforts continued to recruit aid from anywhere that would offer it.Brookes was not the only commanding officer to aid in the battle, far from it, but over the years she remained a leader and tactician. Post-War Living
With the end of the war, Brookes did not slow down in her pursuit the clear the ork forces away. After a few months of recovery she worked to establish Camp Dovus in order to shut down the ork presence gathering in the desert. With the instatement of the new planetary governor she was eventually forced to stand down, though after some time of the new General discovering how stubborn her forces should be she was brought back into the fold.Relationships
