The River Sickness

General Summary

Our adventurers began in Nemeton heading for a new town, Coral Harbour, after a local businessman asked them to deliver medicine to their grandparents living just north of Bog Hollow. They mentioned that they did not think the previous deliveries had made it so to be careful. They also saw another job posted in the area asking for people to go retrieve some lost chickens for hundreds of gold which seemed silly and definitely not relevant at all for sure.

Stocking up supplies in Coral Harbor, the followed the river north having some trouble with a new group of vagabonds charging a bridge tariff. Using a fake letter they made their way through.

Along the path continuing north, they were attacked by wolves which upon investigation, were definitely afflicted with an aggressive disease.

Once in Bog Hollow, they learned that many people in this town were sick. They also learned where the cottage was located.

On the final stretch to the cottage, they were attacked by desperate villagers. Calming the battle after a show of strength, they learned that most of them were lumberjacks to the north, looking even more sickly. They also learned of a possible dark beast the villagers believed to be the possible source of their illness. Making their way up closer to The Great Bog, from the camp they see a dark beast on the other side. A huge black chicken leaning dark ooze into the water.

Delivering medicine to those who needed it with the promise of solving their illness, the adventurers head back to Coral Harbour to stay the night.

Soon later they regroup to head in the direction issued by the job posting. Heading north along the east side of the river this time, the are again attacked by sickly wild animals.

Following onto a boardwalk heading into the outskirts of The Great Bog, heading right then left at forks they step back down onto a small patch of land right as the sun goes down. Mushrooms glow and a path becomes clear through trees.

Walking down this tunnel, they are soon berated by a group of sentient trees with interesting accents. Warning them to be careful of the lady, the adventurers enter into the Domain of Gloomhaven. Making their way into this dreary land, they are attacked by shadows when they are saved just in time by Hagatha carrying a Torch of Necrotic Light. They follow her back to a homestead surrounded by similarly glowing blue torches.

They quickly discern that the sickness is indeed her fault but it is unintentional as the dark chickens that she has been doing experiments on escaped as they were more powerful than she imagined. She offers the company both money and healing medicine if they return as many of the chickens as possible.

They find the first and smallest of the beasts wandering in the dark "forest" where they are jumped by creatures that prey on fear.

They find two more that are being kept by The Lonely One on his spear arms trading for one of them.

They find a large two headed dark chicken on a special location within the Domain of Gloomhaven, a projection of Gloom's sad memories to which they were warned. It is a house on a hill. Almost retrieving the chicken in this fenced in lawn unnoticed, they accidentally drop it onto the ground when a tongue like projection of an old figure erupts from the second story window. It yells, "GET OFF OF MY LAWN". All of the trees and shadows in the area turn to them and attack. They escape barely.

On the way back they finally trap two tiny fast dark chickens Hagatha refers to as "the twins".

They trade the chickens for the gold and medicine though they never track down the final Giant dark chicken that started the initial escape. She promises that the most of the contagion leaking out of Gloomhaven will be diminished though they should eventually find the final bird to rid any illness from the river.

They return to the towns to distribute the medicine and save them from the immediate danger of the river sickness.
