Lightning Bluffs
ightning Bluffs is the name for a range of sea-cliffs spanning a small section of the North Western coastline of The Dawning Empire. It is named such for its ferocious storms that pummel the region all year long. An old watchtower was built here many years ago, to secure the region from naval threats. It sits atop a rocky outcropping centered in a bay between two steep cliffs, and since the earliest days of the Empire has been stationed with a detachment of The Dawn Guard. The tower gained some of fame at one point during the second Federation war, as it held many infamous sea-captains prison beneath the tower. In the present ceasefire, no prisoners are being held there at this time. On the beach behind the tower some hardy folk began to settle. This settlement has become a small town over the years, which services the tower with goods and services. Predominantly made up of hardy orcs, displaced gnomes and down on their luck humans, this rough community favours strength and grit over the finery of the south. An extensive lumber trade occupies much of the townsfolk, with those not wielding an axe almost always holding a fishing rod instead. Huge amounts of timber are sent back to the nearby metropolis of Trinity, often accompanied by the freshest harvests from the sea. In addition, the locale is known for its unique brew known as Mossmead - a golden amber liquid which is extracted from huge barrels covered in a special moss by slowly drip-feeding the liquor through a clay contraption, rendering the beverage ready to drink. Most recently, the town and tower have been struck by a vicious plague of unknown origin that decimated the population, particularly the human and gnomes of the town. The town was isolated for many months during the cold of winter, and with the survivors who made it through the ordeal growing increasingly distrustful and aggressive towards outsiders.
